FOUNDATIONS OF BURDEN

Band:PALLBEARER
Album:FOUNDATIONS OF BURDEN
Label:Profound Lore
Format:CD
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

In the short timespan that they’ve been a band, Little Rock Arkansas’ PALLBEARER have literally defined and set a new standard in the realm of modern-day doom metal. Their 3-song “The Legend” demo which was first released already had made a huge impression in itself amongst the doom metal scene. Said demo would just be a harbinger for what would become the band’s debut full-length LP, 2012’s “Sorrow and Extinction” which made a massive impact not only in the doom metal scene but the entire metal scene in itself along with crossing over even within more mainstream territory. In turn “Sorrow and Extinction” was one of the most praised metal albums of 2012, landing on pretty much every metal best-of year end list and being praised by such notable outlets as Pitchfork, Decibel, SPIN, Rolling Stone, Stereogum, and Entertainment Weekly, just to name a few. The band would do some great tour runs likewise in support of “Sorrow and Exctinction” touring with the likes of St. Vitus, Boris, and Enslaved, and along with playing such notable festivals as Roadburn, Hellfest, MDF, Scion Rockfest, Fun Fun Fun Fest, and Hopscotch Fest respectively.

Now, with their new album “Foundations Of Burden”, PALLBEARER are prepared to take it to the next level unparalleled by creating an album much more advanced, moving, and sonically glorious than their debut. If “Sorrow and Extinction” created massive waves in the metal scene, “Foundations Of Burden” will create the stuff of legends. Captured by legendary producer Billy Anderson (Agalloch, Sleep, Neurosis, The Melvins etc.) at Type Foundry studios in Portland Oregon, “Foundations Of Burden” sees PALLBEARER expand their sound even further and going beyond into an emotionally driven sonic landscape more epic, vast, and ultimately more glorious and triumphant.

Band:OMMADON
Album:V.
Label:BURNING WORLD
Format:VINYL LP
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

Glaswegian Doom Metal par excellence - A must for fans of: Sunn O))), Electric Wizard, Conan etc..

" …and so the downtuned demonic dynamic duo known as Ommadon lurch forth from their slumber to lay waste to the world of man once more. They maketh the earth shake, the skies blacken and the seas boil with their searing, scalding ur‐doom sound. Drums that fall like the footsteps of some monstrous lead‐footed behemoth collide with metallic shrieks, growls and drones that appear to be guitars but could just as easily emanate from the throat of some colossal metallic pterodactyl. Ommadon are a two headed beast of doom and you will bow down before them."

MONNOS - LP (Repress)

Band:CONAN
Album:MONNOS - LP (Repress)
Label:BURNING WORLD
Format:VINYL LP
Genre:Stoner/Doom/Occult/Sludge Metal

LIMITED REPRESS NOW BACK IN STOCK

Conan are as heavy as interplanetary thunder amplified through the roaring black hole anus of Azathoth. A three piece, in the grand tradition of many amazing fabulous three pieces that hold a tight line and an iron-grip command over the uber-synchronised chord changes and tempo-shifts of the holy trio of bass, drums and guitar. Two men have the task of vocalising wretched thoughts over the turgid weight of Conan. They bear it well, for the task is immense. Conan have committed their filthy, ocean-sized sound to wax (and the slightly less cvlt compact disc) twice thus farwith more fetid output always on the horizon. First came the hulking mass of debut album Horseback Battle Hammer (Throne, Aurora Borealis), followed by a split with like-minded sludge-lords, Slomatics (Head of Crom, Burning World). In December 2011 Conan returned to the remote wilderness of Foel Studio, Wales and into the capable hands of producer Chris Fielding for their next album which is to be released on Burning World Records in Spring 2012. The vinyl version of Monnos will be presented at the prestigous Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Holland were Conan will perform.

BLUES BAG

Band:OMAR AND THE HOWLERS
Album:BLUES BAG
Label:BURNSIDE
Format:CD
Genre:Blues

Blues Bag was originally released in 1991 as an acoustic session of tracks featuring Omar Dykes on vocals and acoustic guitar and his good friend, Fingers Taylor, on harp. Several tracks are just Omar and Fingers playing classic blues. Omar decided to bring in the Howlers on a few tracks to give the album additional depth. Gene Brandon, an original Howler drummer, recently passed away. Bruce Jones on bass still plays with Omar today. Omar himself plays harp on Big Chief Pontiac. Many of the songs are some of Omar’s favorite tracks from his entire career in the music industry. This cd is being released again as a tribute to Gene Brandon.

Re-release of classic Omar & The Howlers 1991 release.

ROWDY LOVE

Band:DENVER
Album:ROWDY LOVE
Label:BURNSIDE
Format:CD
Genre:Alt-Country / Americana

Sharing vocal and songwriting duties, Birger Olsen, Mike Elias and Tom Bevitori are the heart of Denver, while the rest of the line-up includes some of Portland’s finest players. Produced by Blitzen Trapper’s Eric Earley at Adam Selzer’s Type Foundry Studio, Denver's second record, Rowdy Love, focuses on the rare way the three songwriters’ distinct voices co-exist. There’s a natural melding of styles that’s evolved from afternoons on Olsen’s back porch and late night’s around Elias’ fire pit. The songwriting is honest and bare, whiskey-fueled, sweat-soaked, and steeped in working class life. The 140 gram vinyl component contains a digital download card.

“When we BBQ in our driveway, we prefer to do it listening to Denver, the band.” – Shovels & Rope

SUNSHINE

Band:DAVINA AND THE VAGABONDS
Album:SUNSHINE
Label:BURNSIDE
Format:CD
Genre:Alt-Country / Americana

Recorded in exquisite analog sound, Sunshine is a bold statement from a songwriter and band that draws from the last 100 years of American music and sounds truly original. Through the 11 songs (and one bonus track), many facets of the group are represented: there is the unmitigated optimism of the title track and "Flow," and the irrepressible New Orleans second-line groove of "Red Shoes." "You Better Start Praying" sounds as if it came from The Band's Last Waltz album sessions, and "Away from Me" is soul balladry at its most heartbreaking. "Fizzle Out" is an achingly beautiful pop tune, and "I Really Try to Be Good" is a hypnotic minor-key rumba. The relaxed swing of "Throw It to the Wolves for Love" is a nod to Fats Waller, and then the band covers the immortal Fats, himself, with a glorious take of his "You Must be Losing Your Mind." Besides the Waller tune, DATV has added two additional covers that have also become fan favorites, done Vagabond style. Included is the blues tune, "I'd Rather Drink Muddy Water," (inspired by Aretha Franklin's version); and Davina plays a sublime solo version of Patty Griffin's "Heavenly Day." The album closes with the bonus track, an updated version of Davina Sowers' "Under Lock and Key," the title track from DATV's 2007 album (now out of print).

“The truly timeless beauty of this remarkable album puts it on a pinnacle, unrivaled and unique, a portion of cultural caviar. Stand aside, Duffy et al, here comes homage Herculean in its faith-full Monty. And yeah, I like it.” -Nick Toczek, Rock’N’Reel Magazine (UK)

GONE

Band:PONG
Album:GONE
Label:BURNSIDE
Format:CD
Genre:Post Punk

Gone is the first new studio album from Pong in four years. Emerging from the ashes of seminal Austin band Ed Hall in the late '90s, the new act eschewed Ed Hall’s post-punk guitar excesses and turned their collective ear in a rhythmic, almost pop direction, Pong emerged as a whole new musical animal; a mighty retro-futuristic fusion of melody, beat, lights, and vocal effects. Talk boxes and banks of keyboards supplanted the traditional rock instruments audiences had come to expect, and dance floors began to give under the weight of ass-shaking punk rockers rediscovering their inner groove, reveling in the mix of electronics, punk, post-punk, hip hop, and humor. Embracing and paraphrasing classic rock convention with a side of rave histrionics for a post-rock world, Pong established themselves as a world of fun in a generally all-too-serious Austin music scene. Gone represents the next step in Pong's musical evolution; seven songs that blur the lines between a number of different genres to construct what might best be described as dance music from another dimension or pop music from an alternate universe.
