The Bureau is proud to present the release of Frank Black’s "Oddballs", a collection of rare gems recorded between 1994 and 1997.

"Oddballs" is a special treat for fans and historians of Black’s epic career. In its initial release in 2000, it was only sold to the lucky folks who went to Frank Black and the Catholics shows. The album is currently out of print, which should be a crime.

'Oddballs’ was made during Frank Black’s transition from a solo studio magician to a purist who recorded everything totally live to 2-track (the method which would eventually be perfected by Frank Black and the Catholics). Many of Oddballs’ treasures are b-sides either from Black’s 1994 acclaimed studio masterpiece Teenager of the Year or from the almost-live, totally raw and powerful Cult of Ray from 1995. Though these oddities are obscure, they are in no way throwaways. Rather, Oddballs gives us a deeper glimpse into Black’s unique vision of rock n’ roll. There are moments of real poetic beauty in the very surreally rocking “Announcement” and in the punky adieu to actor John Candy “At the End of the World”. These are songs at the heart of who Frank Black is at heart: an oddball. Here he is most open and carefree about it. Not many people can yell “Hate Me! My jacket’s not right” at the top of their lungs and make us like them, yet somehow Frank Black knows how to do it.

Oddballs also features outtakes from that era including covers of Roxy Music’s “Remake/Remodel” and the Beau Brummels classic “Just a Little”.

The Skints have risen to the top the underground ska/punk/reggae scene over the past two years and are now breaking out. "Magnification", the 19th studio album of YES from 2001 was different from the 18 albums that had preceded it. Gone were guitarist Billy Sherwood and keyboardist Igor Khoroshev. Remaining members Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, Alan White, and Steve Howe decided not to officially replace them, so YES reverted to a four-person band for the first time in its existence. Conductor Larry Groupe was invited to lead an orchestra, which substituted for the keyboards. It proved to be an inspired idea and it made the album unique in relation to its other releases and was a welcomed change of pace for a band approaching the 40-year mark. The result moves the group into new fields of traditional progressive rock style. We release this masterpiece on 3 LP sides to guarantee the best possible sound. The vinyl is 180 gram heavy-weight and the album comes in gatefold sleeve. Attention limited edition: The first 1000 edits will be released on coloured vinyl!

Sireena Records consciously did not chose the best known bands of the era but on first hand chosed the different styles of Krautrock live on stage. What you clearly can hear is the fun and improvisation during all recordings - that was the most important criterion for this compilation. This album offers (nearly) it all: Wonderful symphonic music (Grobschnitt, Jane, Anyone’s Daughter), bands with long extended jam-sessions (Mythos, Gila, Virus, Out Of Focus), jazzrock (Guru Guru, Embryo), folkrock (Ougenweide), political correctness (Eulenspygel) and crispy Rock’n‘Roll (Karthago, Nine Days Wonder). Yes, those were the days and that’s how it sounds today. When endmastering the cd the titles were added in such a way that you have the feeling to listen to only one concert. It is hoped that you like the result as much as the producers fun arranging this Krautrock compilation.

Although almost completely instrumental, what lyrics there are tend towards the dark and the satiric. The obvious points of comparison are John Fahey and Leo Kottke, although Scott Key certainly has his own presence and style, differences in tone and color and attack, which he attributes to his background in rock bands. Overall, there is a brooding, loner folk/psych feel, most evident on the phenomenal, effects-heavy, almost 11-minute long title track, ‘This Forest and the Sea.’ "I was coming to terms with what it mean to exist… and saw the world in pure black and white—there was no room for grey,” Key said. “I saw an American Culture devoid of any understanding of its place in the universe, how we learn nothing save what we see on television, how our existence is tainted by intellectual laziness, and how our gift of life is defiled by the taking of it." This deluxe tip-on mini-LP jacket edition of “This Forest and the Sea” includes five bonus tracks from Key’s second private press album (“Unlock Your Feelin’s); the twenty-page booklet sports engaging, funny, and insightful notes by Key, photos, plus the text to poem that inspired the title track; as a nod to the forest, the booklet is printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy. I love this record. For me, it has a trace or two of Arthur Lee and Love at their best (‘Krishna Dov’ would not sound out of place on “Forever Changes,” for example), with dashes of maybe Terry Callier in some of the jazzier tunes. I also like that Hollins & Starr wrote a gentle tribute to one of my favorite old-time bluesmen, Mississippi John Hurt. At times this album is a gorgeous, ethereal blend of psychedelic folk and offbeat pop; but there are some funk and avant-garde moves too (where did those crazy orchestrations, wild guitar, and breakbeats on the fierce anti-war rave-up ‘Hard Headed Woman’ come from?), all supported by an odd assortment of instruments, including flute, bells and a generous helping of fuzz guitar. Chicago-based duo Chuck Hollins and David Starr only made this one album, which originally appeared in 1970 on the Ovation label.

Ovation said at the time of its release, “Classical artistry rock and sidewalk poetry.” All true. Very cool. Hip, mellow, and stoned.

Mombu is a project of Luca T. Mai bariton sax player of "ZU" the amazing italian band of the Ipecac Recordings, and Antonio Zitarelli drummer of "NEO" crazy italian trio. Nattens lovsång is Andreas Runeson’s debut album as a composer. Runeson is mainly known for being the producer and founder of the label Compunctio. The last ten years he has produced albums for artists including Nicolai Dunger, David Åhlén, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten, Håkon Kornstad and Jon Christensen.

The idea behind Ensemble Lakonia and Nattens Lovsång (“midnight praise”) was formed in 2005 when Andreas Runeson took a sabbatical to live in a Swedish monastic community called Bjärka-Säby. Upon returning to ordinary life in Uppsala, Sweden, he contacted a few musicians who had been on his mind. After several years – in strange ways – Ensemble Lakonia had taken form. The music was recorded in a concert hall during three days in the summer of 2010. The big challenge was to keep the raw simplicity of the tunes and at the same time transform it into chamber music. If you listen to the music it seems logical that it took long time to find the right musicians, to find a form for the music and to make this album. The result is a wayward navigation between blues, chamber music, jazz, Swedish folk music and Gregorian chants.

When Andreas Eklöf and Mats Persson co-operated on Eklöfs’s album NOR (Compunctio 2008) it was listed as one top modern composition albums of the year in the magazine Wire and others. On this album they take the co-operation to the next level. Composition, interpretation and improvisation are made by them both. The music on the album is an exploration into the rich sound spectrum of the clavichord.

Andreas Eklöf is a composer and a musician. He has composed for the Gothenburg Combo (David Hansson and Thomas Hansy), Maria Ingemarsson, Trio Gohtia (Kristina Halvordsson, My Hellgren, Louise Jansson) and Mats Persson, amongst others. Mats Persson has played a great number of concerts since 1972. Music by Erik Satie, the early 20th century avant-garde from Russia, John Cage, Morton Feldman and Christian Wolff was from the beginning the main part of his repertoire – music that he performed a long time before it had gain status in the official music life.

“Morgan Christopher Geer, the man behind Drunken Prayer's moody blend of Americana and altfolk, has the sort of gravelly, lived-in voice that evokes memories of The Band and Tom Waits. New project from Frederic Arbour (VISIONS). Havan (Fire Sacrifice) aims to explore spontaneous forms of aural explorations through instinctive sound manipulations, balancing improvisation with the channeling of sonic energies. Havan is also meant as a mainly collaborative endeavor and so for this first recording Frederic was joined by Harlow MacFarlane (FUNERARY CALL) and Sarah Rosalina Brady (AMBER ASYLUM). The album was recorded during a live ritual in November 2012 using Analog Synths, Guitar, Gongs, Bells, Voice and Electric Violin and the result is a stirring elemental foray into the transforming powers of sound and ritual. The eight pieces that make up this new album stand firmly on their own, and yet form an even more remarkable whole. Johan Levin envokes a grand soundscape, beneath the faded remnants of the celestial spheres where timbres have space to grow, evolve and reflect off each other, a sombre, melancholic thoughtfullness, a calm to dwell in, and long back to. The atmosphere of the album is not that of solid darkness, or an abyss opening beneath you, but rather a wintery pale, grey dusk casting long, sweeping shadows. In the vein of their cult classic records such as Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy, MSI and Metropolis Records proudly released You’ll Rebel to Anything. This newly remastered version contains tracks previously only found originally on the clean and vinyl versions, as well as two bonus tracks - including the previously unreleased live version of the fan favorite “Wack” (recorded at the bands legendary three night stand at NYC’s Webster Hall), and “Make Me Cum” from the unreleased “Pink” album - and a live video for their classic song , “Molly.”

The band and hoards of fans boarded the ship and began a tour of all the planets, finally ending on the sun. All but HuG were burnt up, for they are time traveling space gods bent on total cerebral domination. Saknad fornaldar Marías is Anna's first solo album. The album title is named after one of the poems and translated means "yearning for the old days."

The absence of Iceland has sparked her interest in her roots and she began to read old poetry books, which she had inherited from her grandparents. With the album "I" they have reached the famous "Warning" status and was a "child" of the well known "Hidria Spacefolk". The second album entitled "II" was experimenting with a singer to get rid of it compares to Hidria Spacefolk, which worked great. But good music does not need Vocals! Therefore been omitted from now on without a voice.

The project came to life from The Slaiver's ashes in 2009 as a three piece with a stronger identity After a few months of activity, and after an European tour, the band released their first EP "Rose Lane was Tucker's Girlfriend" on Subsound Records, produced by Giulio "Ragno" Favero (Zu, Il Teatro Degli Orrori, One Dimensional Man) and with the special participation of Luca Mai from ZU and MOMBU. The beginning of this year saw the band going back to the studio, this time with Massimiliano "Mano" Moccia and the important help of Gionata Mirai (Il Teatro degli Orrori; Super Elastic Bubble Plastic, Gionata Mirai) to make a much more mature album, even more complex and aggressive, pushing the whole project towards an extremely personal sound, rather difficult to categorize. The band has grown, the sound is changed. Almost fifty minutes of intensity, rough sound and moments of distressing and annihilating darkness.
