HOLD BACK THE DAWN

Band:GRAVEYARD
Album:HOLD BACK THE DAWN
Label:WAR ANTHEM
Format:CD
Genre:Death Metal

Following the release of their monumental third full-length album, …for Thine is the Darkness, in 2016, GRAVEYARD continued recording material and released a Minialbum called “Back to the Mausoleum” in 2018. With an evolved sound that resulted from these sessions, GRAVEYARD then refocused their attention on the writing, rehearsing, and recording of new original material, which has now culminated in their fourth full-length offering, Hold back the Dawn an album which confirms that the best musical product results from patient and diligent attention to detail. As with their prior releases, the 8 tracks on Hold back the Dawn are relentless, scorching examples of metal fire and blood influenced not singularly from one, but instead from several sub-categories of death/doom and even heavy metal.

COME THE TIDE

Band:ETERNAL STORM
Album:COME THE TIDE
Label:TRANSCENDING OBSCURITY
Format:CDD
Genre:Death Metal

Spanish death metal band Eternal Storm have created a mesmerizing album full of elegant riffs and soul-piercing melodies. After releasing a very well received EP and a split release, they've come up with their debut full length which sets new standards for bands playing in this style. Everything is immaculately executed, right from the artwork to the production, ensuring that their much awaited release doesn't leave anything to be desired. The music is breathtaking and takes influences from several styles to create a sound that is at once emotive and striking. Most bands lean excessively towards either side but Eternal Storm exemplify the perfect balance of melody and heaviness in death metal music. Nothing on the album is forced but flows naturally, almost intuitively, and transports you to a tumultuous place where you take in the beauty as well as the wrath - a place akin to the one featured on the album cover.

The fusion has happened on an intrinsic level, imbuing the music with extraordinary qualities that make their music stand out from the rest of the bands. The vision has remained fierce and the execution flawless, as members of this enigmatic band use all their experience in other bands to create something that will stand the test of time, warranting multiple listens and unearthing of multiple facets buried in their music. This is the band's first full length and easily their most accomplished material yet, encompassing various sounds and instruments in order to make the experience intense and haunting, and quite simply put, unforgettable. This is otherworldly, mystical black/death metal of the highest order.

ENTRANCE TO THE OTHERWHERE

Band:ROGGA JOHANSSON
Album:ENTRANCE TO THE OTHERWHERE
Label:TRANSCENDING OBSCURITY
Format:CDD
Genre:Death Metal

Rogga Johansson is the eponymous band of the unheralded death metal legend who's responsible for masterminding other bands such as Paganizer, Revolting, The Grotesquery, Necrogod and many others. This here is his solo project and he's created some of the best music you'll hear where classic Swedish death metal goes. He's found a way to incorporate searing melodies without compromising on the trademark heaviness, and it's a balance that few have managed to pull off in recent times. With a magnificent artwork by Mariusz Lewandowski (Eremit, Bell Witch, Jupiterian) bringing to life Rogga's glorious vision of pristine death metal that disregards all trends and pays homage to the genre's progenitors, 'Entrance to the Otherwhere' is immaculately put together and promises to linger in the minds of listeners long after the album is over. There is little doubt that this is Rogga Johansson's finest hour.

DAMNED IN ENDLESS NIGHT

Band:WARCRAB
Album:DAMNED IN ENDLESS NIGHT
Label:TRANSCENDING OBSCURITY
Format:CDD
Genre:Death Metal

Monolithic UK death/sludge metal band Warcrab return with a brand new release of unbelievable heaviness and groove. Carrying on where they last left with their unique blend of down-tuned sludge and ponderous death metal, 'Damned in Endless Night' is where they flesh it out and leave no room for doubt on the efficacy of this powerful and cohesive fusion of underground styles. Equipped with three guitarists emphasizing on mostly heaviness, the music is not only soul-crushing but also brilliantly composed and memorable. Each song adds its own value to the album and is irreplaceable and multiple listens, however devastating, will only attest to that fact. This long-awaited full length from the band is arguably the band's best release to date. The juggernaut is in motion and unstoppable.

DISEASED

Band:BONES
Album:DISEASED
Label:TRANSCENDING OBSCURITY
Format:CDD
Genre:Death Metal

Hailing from Chicago, US, Bones are creating some of the filthiest form of death metal/crust music ever created. Laden with riffs that will tear your head off, this is easily the band’s finest hour. The album is buzzing with this raw, visceral energy that’s impossible to replicate and is what makes this band stand out from the rest. There’s an innate sense of pulsating groove that is detrimental to your physical wellbeing and when coupled with the maniacal energy with which the band throws their music at you, it becomes the catalyst for widespread devastation. ‘Diseased’ is how you want your death metal to sound circa 2019 – raw, crusty and atavistic.

TRINITY OF DECEPTION

Band:BURIAL REMAINS
Album:TRINITY OF DECEPTION
Label:TRANSCENDING OBSCURITY
Format:CDD
Genre:Death Metal

One of the most promising old school death metal bands with members of Fleshcrawl, Grim Fate, etc. give us their debut full length titled 'Trinity of Deception'. Mixed and mastered by Jonny Pettersson of Wombbath, Heads For The Dead and more, with guest vocals by none other than Ralf Hauber of Revel In Flesh, Heads For The Dead, this is one death metal release that will send out shock waves in the underground. With phenomenal artwork from Mortuus Art of Sadistik Forest fame, every little aspect of this release has been taken care of by known professionals. Musically, this is a devastating slab of old school death metal that is worthy of being mentioned alongside the genre's greats such as Carnage, Dismember, Entombed and Grave, with the difference being that these guys are faster, hungrier, and play with maniacal energy. It's a breath of fresh air when most bands are trying to play safe and these guys are just rampaging through everything in their path.

THE RISE OF THE BLIND ONES

Band:COME BACK FROM THE DEAD
Album:THE RISE OF THE BLIND ONES
Label:TRANSCENDING OBSCURITY
Format:CDD
Genre:Death Metal

Spanish death metal masters Come Back From The Dead return to unleash their latest full length two years after their highly acclaimed EP on the same label. Playing a refreshing style of old school Swedish death metal meets dark American death metal, not too unlike Entombed covering Autopsy, this band is creating unforgettable music that begs for repeat listens. The riffs are some of the sickest you’ll hear, savage and yet tuneful, which you will be humming long after it’s over. There’s an undeniable crusty edge to the proceedings which is hardly surprising given that there are members of Nashgul and Machetazo in this band, and even the mighty Bokluk. Just when you thought that this kind of death metal music has lost its charm or flavour, you get an album like this that changes your perception completely by expertly using the best elements of classic styles to concoct a formidable sound, one that is both consistent and individualistic. ‘The Rise of the Blind Ones’ is undeniably one of the best and most well-thought death metal albums to come out in recent times while upholding the glory of the old school sound..

ESOGENESI

Band:ESOGENESI
Album:ESOGENESI
Label:TRANSCENDING OBSCURITY
Format:CDD
Genre:DEATH/DOOM METAL

Death/doom metal band Esogenesi have concocted a sublime blend that harnesses the power of death metal with the poignancy of doom metal, backed with an able, organic yet powerful sound that the band can call it their own. Even though this is only their debut, the quartet have outdone themselves in creating music with unfathomable depth and emotional poise. The five songs plod along with subtle but effective changes in mood, tempo and groove, and it often becomes imperative to revisit them to catch the brilliant nuances ensconced in the rumbling death metal-spiked parts. This is as good a debut as any to come out in the genre and it only solidifies the band's place in the increasing death/doom roster of Transcending Obscurity.
