THE TAKE

Band:TAKE, THE
Album:THE TAKE
Label:DEMONS RUN AMOK
Format:CD
Genre:STREETPUNK/HARDCORE

"Hardcore used to be followed by the word punk and that’s what we originally wanted to create”. What emerged is a refreshing mix of punk, oi, hardcore and rock & roll with melodic yet raspy vocals and a new approach to underground music. Famed NYHC drummer Will Shepler (formerly of Agnostic Front, Madball) and Sick Of It All bassist Craig Setari (also formerly Agnostic Front) had an idea for a hardcore power trio. Will called longtime friend, guitarist/vocalist Scott Roberts (formerly of Biohazard, The Spudmonsters, Bloodclot!, Cro-Mags) who had just left Biohazard only weeks before. It was perfect timing for Scott as he wanted to move on and create something new from the ground up with complete creative freedom and passion. Soon after, Scott and Will began working on what would become The Take’s self titled debut record. Craig was busy with Sick Of It All’s hectic touring schedule so Scott recruited friend and oi veteran Carlos Congote (Royal Hounds, formerly of 45 Adapters, Urban Noise, Legion 76) to complete the lineup.

SACRIFICIAL RITES OF DEVOTION

Band:SCATMOTHER/CHAOS CASCADE
Album:SACRIFICIAL RITES OF DEVOTION
Label:DUNKELHEIT
Format:CD
Genre:POWER ELECTRONICS/NOISE/INDUSTRIAL

Beware as soon we will witness the release of "Sacrificial Rites Of Devotion", a split between two German beasts named Scatmother & Chaos Cascade. The opening sounds of Scatmother might cut your eardrum like a scalpel, with its insanely sharp tuned Power Electronics, heavier than a gut-punch. Its side consists of 5 tracks of varied lenght, all evoking soundscapes similar to those recorded on a battlefield. Raise the volume high while listening in order to enjoy the torture to its fullest! Chaos Cascade, on the other hand, reveals four new tracks that even if relying less on fast outbursts don´t lose any dominance. These disturbing mid paced sounds will shatter your listening comfort & haunt your subconscious. “Sacrificial Rites of Devotion” is insanely grinding, pitchblack & industrialized Noise.

PARALLEL LINE

Band:PAPER BEAT SCISSORS
Album:PARALLEL LINE
Label:SEA YOU
Format:CD
Genre:ALT POP

Crabtree, born in Burnley, England, long since settled in Montreal, Canada is a decade into his existence as Paper Beat Scissors. By the music industry’s contemporary metrics, that’s long enough to build, ride, crash and burn a number of fleeting personae. In contrast, the arc of Paper Beat Scissors has been a rewarding, holistic slow burn. Following a steady stream of accomplished releases (covered by BBC, Rolling Stone and Exclaim, among others) and live appearances (alongside Mark Kozelek, Tanya Tagaq, Dan Mangan and My Brightest Diamond, for instance), Parallel Line focuses the sound we’ve come to love along the way: strong-willed chamber folk in the name of visceral tenderness. The creative journey that fed Parallel Line was slow and circuitous. Crabtree credits a myriad of learning opportunities as shaping the final work: late, hazy nights at The House Of Miracles with JJ Ipsen and Marshall Bureau in Cambridge, ON, forming the bedrock the album was built upon, chance bass clarinet jams with Jeremy Dutcher, deep delves into the classical world collaborating and experimenting with Richard Reed Parry (Deutsche Grammophon), sharing lodgings with Yuval Zorn (conductor of the Tel Aviv Opera) at the Banff Centre for the Arts and spending the last year arranging his music for orchestral instrumentation and performing with chamber ensembles from coast to coast across Canada. A through line is marked by the contributions from long-standing PBS collaborators Michael Feuerstack (lapsteel) and Pietro Amato (French horn) and the whole package is wrapped up by the careful hands of mix engineers Sandro Perri and Dean Nelson (Beck). The final output is a well-threaded journey set to spur and comfort the listener in turn.

HYMNS OF INDIGESTIBLE SUPPURATION

Band:LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY
Album:HYMNS OF INDIGESTIBLE SUPPURATION
Label:Bones Brigade
Format:CD
Genre:GORE GRIND

Issued 19 years ago in 2000, is not only just as good but also virtually identical to any current genre release. Does that mean LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY were way ahead of their time. This is an iconic Gore-Grind album.

FERAL

Band:NADSAT
Album:FERAL
Label:Subsound Records
Format:LP
Genre:MATH NOISE METAL

"Feral" is exactly what the title states: wild, violent, without any compromise. Right now "Feral" is like Nadsat: *the extremism of the idea of sound and of the instrumental duo. "Feral" is pure noise
