DEPARTED

Band:DESIDERII MAGINIS
Album:DEPARTED
Label:cyclic law
Format:LP
Genre:AMBIENT

On his now 10th full length album, Johan Levin offers us a slow, soaring meditation on mortality. The complete certainty of death, and how we cope with that knowledge is what constitues the essence of this new opus. “Departed” retains the sacral expression of its predecessor “Vita Arkivet”, but not within the oppressive confinement of old stone vaults, but high across a raging seas, rocky shores and darkened skies. Music for gazing at the endless ocean of infinity, trying to catch a glimpse of meaning through the tiny rips in the fabric of existence; its magic and loss. The CD and Digital versions contain 3 bonus tracks, reworks of classic pieces “Deadbeat” and “Worlds Apart” and “I Am Without Rule (Sum Sine Regno)”, recorded December 2018, and while sound wise it harks back to the “Vita Arkivet” album, thematically it is more akin to “Departed”, lending it's title from the medieval mortality motif of “The Wheel of Fortune” which became very popular after the great plague. Standard Edition LP of 200 copies on black vinyl. Matt laminated Sleeve with printed inner sleeve. 6 Tracks. Running Time 42:15

ALLES IST UFER. EWIG RUFT DAS MEER

Band:LAMIA VOX
Album:ALLES IST UFER. EWIG RUFT DAS MEER
Label:cyclic law
Format:CD
Genre:AMBIENT/ORCHESTRAL

Long awaited new material from Lamia Vox. Titled “Alles ist Ufer. Ewig ruft das Meer” (Everything is shore. The sea calls forever) after the Gesänge poem by Gottfried Benn, the album is’nt presented merely as a musical piece but bears a deep spiritual message and a counterblast to the rational, materialistic and post-theist nihilism of current age. Inspired by early modern poetry, Hermeticism, fin-de-siècle symbolism and naturphilosophie, this new opus celebrates another vision of the world, one of higher dimensions and beyond the human sphere, a world of intoxicated and ecstatic alchemy of poetic language and ideas. An upward movement and a breakthrough from the bonds of materia to the source of life and eternity. Dionysian liberating lawlessness to oppose sterile rationalism and creativity, divine madness, metanoia as a form of ultimate salvation. Poetry flows, it is a sacred art and process and the laboratory of the Magnum Opus, a divine gift of deliberate madness. CD editing of 600 copies in 6 panel digisleeve with matt lamination. 8 Tracks. Running Time 35:09

HELJARRUNAR

Band:UNDIRHEIMAR
Album:HELJARRUNAR
Label:cyclic law
Format:CD
Genre:RITUAL/AMBIENT

Undirheimar conjures from the formless void musical talismans for the listener to experience through limited human senses, and, for those more attuned to Thursian forces, beyond them. Each spell is a poisonous offering whose intrinsic purpose is to invade the cosmic realm and spread Thursastafir (Thursian primordial knowledge). These workings manifest what is alien to the demiurge’s creation, and thus, as the eleven venomous rivers from Hvergelmir, infect the roots of the cosmic pillar. The mediums used to disseminate the eitr from the outer-worlds are somber and arcane sounds and vibrations, Thursian gnosis through sonic sorcery. Within the sorcerous craft utilised to convey Thursastafir, the use of Mongolian, Tibetan, and Siberian style throat chanting is strongly apparent. Utilising the raw power of vibration and the primal technique of repetitive mantras, Undirheimar channels the magical potency of primordial sound from both written texts as well as wordless galdr. The aim is not to recreate a specific cultural technique, but rather to derive inspiration from existing practices, and through personal shamanic working, bring forth Undirheimar’s own stream of devotional and magical praxis. Edition of 300 copies in 6 panel Digisleeve. 6 tracks. Running Time 74:08

HELIOZ

Band:VORTEX
Album:HELIOZ
Label:cyclic law
Format:CD
Genre:RITUAL/AMBIENT

After the distinctive and critically acclaimed mythical album trilogy "Kali Yuga", "Moloch" & "As Gods Fall" (Cyclic Law) Vortex returns with an epic new album. “Helioz” presents a cycle of tracks dealing with solar mythology throughout history, cultures and religions. The sun is essential to human life and culture, worshipped as an unconquered force, male or female, it is part of numerous mythologies; from the cyclical path of the sun barge in Egypt to the Roman Mithras cult and the Japanese goddess Amaterasu. Like C. G. Jung’s concept of the "Nachtmeerfahrt" the new Vortex album takes an intense trip on the night sea, following the sun on its mythical journey through various imaginations. "Helioz" is the most song-based album by Vortex to date, featuring various guest musicians. Patrick Kleinbauer of Notre Dame de l’Oublie and Rome, Lamia Vox, Nam Khar, Oliver Freund of Mars, Stephan Ortlepp of Musica Non Grata and Kai Naumann of The Trail provided guest vocals and instrumental contributions to add to the multi-layered, complex sound compositions which became a trademark of Vortex. Cinematic soundscape converge with dark drones, archaic sounds and instruments like goat horns, tagl harpa, jaw harp, various vocals and throat singing as well as atmospheric electric guitar passages. The album’s artwork was again created by the visionary French talent [nihil], reflecting upon the album’s themes. Lyrics and liner notes are included in the extensive booklet. Edition of 500 copies in 6 panels Digisleeve with 16 pages Booklet, matt lamination. 9 tracks. Running Time 57:47

After her Matura she went to Israel for one year and worked there in the social sector and in socialist kibbutzim. She then moved to Amsterdam where she studied sociology and political science. Album:KEZEREN KOIHT
Label:CPL MUSIC
Format:CD
Genre:FOLK RUSSIA

Merema are on a mission: the musicians want to save the dying languages of their homeland Mordvinia! The question is allowed: Where is Mordovia? Not so far away from Western Europe, between Moscow and the Volga. The football fans among us perhaps are familiar with the capital Saransk, one of the venues for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The currently six-piece folk ensemble Merema was already founded in Saransk in 2010 and has set itself increasingly ambitious goals in the following years. The members around "boss" Ekaterina Modina now call Merema an "ethnographic folklore studio". The members carry out field studies in the Moravian villages and want to preserve the traditions of their home region

BLACK MIRROR REFLECTION

Band:SVABHAVAT
Album:BLACK MIRROR REFLECTION
Label:Eisenwald
Format:CD
Genre:Black Metal

SVABHAVAT are a brand-new entity hailing from the American Pacific Northwest. A duo, they describe their music as "Ritualistic Necromancy Black Metal," and indeed is that demi-tag apt: across the band's Black Mirror Reflection debut, one will find the refreshingly old stench of archetypal Darkthrone, Mayhem, and especially Kartharsis. No elegiac odes to the Cascadians or sun-drenched bliss masquerading as "black metal" here; SVABHAVAT offer nothing but cold 'n' cruel intensity, violently at odds with their region's reigning paradigm. Yet, for a sound so stridently traditional, SVABHAVAT offer unique twists of the knife across Black Mirror Reflection, its self-imposed boundaries paradoxically offering freedom. Undoubtedly, those noble influences form their foundation - as they do for countless black metal bands, past and present - but there's a devilish delirium the duo delve into across their debut album which suggests aesthetic aims beyond the tried & true (or "tired & tr00"). Almost deceptively so, Black Mirror Reflection in fact reflects a hovering, haunting melodicism that poignantly penetrates one's subsconcious but never without smacking of the saccharine; simply put, SVABHAVAT's ceaseless(ly sinister) intensity bleeds through at any speed, which is all the more suprising given their Spartan composition as a two-piece. And speaking of compositions, the six comprising this 37-minute Black Mirror Reflection are mini-epics in their own right, offering expectionally linear narratives exceedingly daubed in the grim and ghoulish, the total package taut and swiftly satisfying. Intoxication through damnation, salvation through incineration...SVABHAVAT offer a dread path ahead. Step forward and stare into their Black Mirror Reflection. TRACKLIST 1. Mysteries of the Odious Path 2. Great Tiamat, Filled with Corpses 3. Abhicaara 4. Chalice of Poisoned Souls 5. Aghori, Flame of Knowledge 6. Black Mirror Reflection

GELDERSE POORT

Band:ISKANDR
Album:GELDERSE POORT
Label:Eisenwald
Format:LP + CD
Genre:HEATHEN BLACK METAL

ISKANDR continues to roam, wider and wistfully, with the epic new EP Gelderse Poort. Comprising two tracks for a total of 24 minutes, Gelderse Poort is a thematically unified release, offering yet more depth to the already-deep ISKANDR aesthetic. The EP s title track was recorded during the Euprosopon sessions and deal with O s home region and both the spiritual connection and distance to one's place of origin. The Gelderse Poort is a literal name for the region where the Rhine enters the Netherlands from Germany, since it is on this border that the river cuts a path through two elevated areas and, as such, resembles a sort of "gate" into the Netherlands. As O explains, I take this 'gate' as a more symbolic entity, a metaphorical entryway into or exit from one's home that moment whenever you feel like 'Ah, I'm back again!' or the other way around, 'Damn, I feel very far removed from home right now.' Fittingly, the title track spans a wealth of sonic terrain, from spacious n pastoral to the searingly violent, but all with ISKANDR s characteristically deft and dynamic touch. Het Graf, the second track, features a spoken rendition of a part of the poem "het Graf" (English: The Grave ) by Dutch writer Rhijnvis Feith, spoken by O s father. Even moodier than Gelderse Poort s title track, dipping into eerily quiet passages brimming with beauty and tension alike, the song fittingly deals with death, the finitude of life, and youth vs. old age. It was very significant to have my dad on the record since all ISKANDR material is pretty personal in nature, O enthuses, and having him recite a poem dealing with these existential themes is a very meaningful addition to my discography, I feel. Meaningful, and essential: ISKANDR s discography may be spare still, but the band s vision continues to be breathtaking. Set sail for splendor and wonder with Gelderse Poort!
