MACHIAVELLIAN are a five piece metal band from Lancashire (UK). Formed in 2006, the band’s inspiration for ‘The Impossibility Of Death In The Mind’s Of The Living’ was coming from a town with no opportunities or potential, and the struggle to break away or be productive with it’s confines without losing hope and settling for the hand with which they were dealt. The record deals with the resulting anger and despair associated with such a scenario. The EP was recorded at Foel Studios, Llanfair Caereinion, Wales, and produced/mixed by Chris Fielding (Napalm Death, Electric Wizard, Primordial). It was also mastered by legendary metal producer Russ Russell (Napalm Death, Dimmu Borgir). Since forming the band have toured with the likes of Misery Index (Relapse Records), Sikth (Bieler Brothers), Dry Kill Logic (Repossession Records), Job For A Cowboy (Metal Blade Records), SSS (Earache Records) and Bring Me The Horizon (Visible Noise). Sammath was formed in 1994 by Jan Kruitwagen. Inspired by early black metal and the thrash, speed and death formations of the eighties. Growing up in Australia raw fast metal left its mark on Sammath. Jan moved from Moved from Sydney to Europe, Holland in 1989.1994- First promo tape "Visions upon winter lands" was recorded. "Zwaardbroeders bij de bergengte" (Brothers of the sword at the mountain pass) was released in 1996 several tracks appeared on complication tapes worldwide. The next year the promo tape "De ruïnes fluisteren" (the ruins whisper) was released in 97. This led to a deal with Folter Records in 1997. 1999 The first CD "Strijd" (Battle) was recorded on 16 tracks. All lyrics, music and instruments recorded by Kruitwagen. Numerous tracks were released on complication tapes/cds like the "Encyclopedia Pestilentia" complication . The new Sammath CD 2002 "Verwoesting/Devastation" was released, a violent and unconventional way of combining black and death metal. In 2002 Sammath performed at the Under the black sun festival and did some gigs in the Netherlands. In 2002 Macabre Operetta rereleased the first album "Strijd" on LP under licence from Folter. After the recording of the album the idea was born to search for bandmembers. Sammath ended up a two piece outfit. Signing on with Folter Records 2006 The album "Dodengang" turned out to be a furious black metal cd. Great reviews almost everywhere.To promote the album Sammath did some different shows in Holland and at the Under the black sun festival. Madman Magnus from Magnificat will contribute mad guitar solos to the new, most aggressive, violent and raging Sammath album Triumph in hatred.

In 1991, in the city of Katowice (Upper Silesia, Poland), Flauros and Cymeris started a band called Dissolution. The term 'black metal' was only known in Poland at the time as something having to do with Venom records. The two teenagers, fascinated with the left hand path, were fanatics of Kat [The Executioner] (a Polish old school trash metal band); they also unceasingly listened to vinyls of Bathory, Celtic Frost, Entombed and the aforesaid Brits. The music of Dissolution was made then on a wheezy guitar and a poor 5-watt amplifier. It was a combination of middle-tempo death metal, coarse and repetitive riffs and dreadful lyrics. The band did a few local gigs, among which those played as a support of the Polish Pandemonium, Liers in Wait and Vader. A year later those two friends got deeper into black metal and Dissolution became memory. In 1994 Mastiphal released their first demo entitled “Sowing Profane Seed”. The line-up was : Flauros (vocal), Cymeris (guitar) Abigor (bass), Desecrator (keyboards) and Sarcueil (drums). The band managed to build a strong position on the thriving underground scene. “Sowing Profane Seed” quickly gained recognition among black metalheads. Unlike loads of bands slavishly imitating the Norwegian hords, Mastiphal was distinguished by their harmonious arrangements and elaborate guitar riffs. The band used keyboards – definitely not a classical black metal weapon at the time. Along with Christ Agony, Graveland and Behemoth (just starting out on their career then) Mastiphal became one of the most promising bands of the Polish black metal scene. “For a Glory of All Evil Spirits, Rise for Victory” was recorded and released in 1995. Sammach replaced Desecrator on keyboards. A year later, the album was released by Nocturn Records (Holland) which, unfortunately, ended its existence a couple of months later. Undoubtedly, For a Glory... was a continuation of the style that the band had chosen on the demo. Arrangements were more melodic and keyboards more and more persistent. Unforunately. soon after Flauros and Cymeris failed to reach a musical compromise and with time their paths diverged. The last records by Mastiphal included a compilation Seed of Victory, released by the Vox Mortiis in 1998 and 'Mag- Sex', a cover from the Kat repertoire. Ten years later it can be finally announced – Mastiphal is back! “Damnation Memoriae is a luxury double digipack with all recordings of Mastiphal. After you refresh your memory with their outstanding legacy – you can expect new album which will be released in 2010!

This band is considered to be pioneers of black metal in Poland and together with Pandemonium was the main impulse and inspiration to develop this genre. Xantotol was formed in 1991 and stayed true to black metal ideas till the end of their activity. At the beginning of previous decade where such music started to develop in Norway, there were only several bands in Poland, truly dedicated to the extreme musical art. After recording first demo tape “Glory For Centuries” which include Samael cover “Into The Pentagram” the band spreaded its wings and followed with recording of mini album “Cult Of The Black Pentagram”. When the album was done, Xantotol got the offer from Finnish label Hammer Of Damnation Records but rejected it due to their orthodox vision of producing and promoting black metal. Finally “Cult Of The Pentagram” was released by Witching Hour in 1993. The band got deeper and deeper into satanic philosophy and found hermetic organization called “Fullmoon”. Their next step was recording of full-time album, “Thus Spake Zaratustra”, based strongly o Nitzsche’s works and released again by Witching Hour. Despite or maybe due to extreme and orthodox approach, this gave the band much recognition and respect in underground. Next year the band started to prepare music for next album tentatively called “Czort” but unfortunately this has never seen the light of the day. In 1996 Xantotol decided to call it a day. This is your chance to check Xantotol only full album rereleased exclusively in digipak format. This is black metal history – the masterpiece of it’s darkest and creative period!

They unfortunately underwent a hiatus in the middle 90s that lasted more than the originally planned couple of years – in fact closer to eleven, but are now re-activated and ready to take on the world ! “In The Face Of Danger” is their amazing debut that if released a few years earlier would have sold millions and made them international rock stars of the highest stature. Unfortunately released at the height of the grunge phenomenon, didn’t help its cause that much, but it still did well – all things considered! Sonically overhauled, after some painstaking re-mastering at Panik Studios & with the addition of 2 live tracks as bonuses, the album has never sounded better. Moreover there’s a never before seen one hour DVD with 3 promo video clips and about 10 segued live performance clips (pro-shot multi camera) included as a bonus disk. Was the Iron Curtain in place to keep out Western forces, or was it to keep groovy music like this in? Secret underground grooves that explode with the power of a thousand ICBMs! This is a rollicking tour through the old Eastern Bloc; groups hailing from Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria and the former Czechoslovakia hell bent on proving that, despite their incarceration, they had perfected the decidedly British and American sound that makes up this rare and unique mix of psych/rock. The album slows down only twice; two ballads, both released in the former Czechoslovakia, are sung in English. Both are beautiful. For the rest, there’s heavy bass lines, consonant clusters, occasional horn support and searing fuzz guitar punctuation. From an early Illes (Hungary) with added crowd noises and a Merseyesque take on R&B, to a later Illes with flute and closely-miked slide guitar and wall of strings, this collection rocks. Unavailable for years on LP and never on CD, public demand has prompted Past & Present to give this soundtrack/compilation the release it deserves.
