MAMIFFER was initially founded by artist Faith Coloccia after the disbanding of her experimental project Everlovely Lightningheart, With MAMIFFER, Faith began to focus more on songwriting through the paino, fusing neo-classical elements and then incorporating ambient electronic hums and reductionist metal dirge. With MAMIFFER, Faith had collaborated with a myriad of musicians but found a steadiness with her main MAMIFFER co-conspirators Travis Rommeriem and her partner Aaron Turner (of ISIS / Hydra Head Records fame).

Formed in 2008 by Lorraine Rath (ex-THE GAULT, AMBER ASYLUM) and Jessica Way, San Francisco’s WORM OUROBOROS would make quite an impression with their self-titled 2009 debut album. Described by Decibel magazine as an Asunder album played by Kate Bush, WORM OUROBOROS’ delicately constructed chamber pieces were an immaculate combination of ‘80s 4AD inspired chamber/dark rock and doom metal. The members of Kansas City Jammers (described elsewhere as “struggling between getting good grades and scoring good drugs”) first began performing together in 1969, while students at Ohio Wesleyan University. Colorful though that description may be, it hardly tells the tale, as the band members were all accomplished musicians and songwriters. The end result: excellent music! The band’s self-released “Got Good (if you get it)” LP, recorded between 1969 and 1971, and given the deluxe master-tape reissue treatment here, is a mixture of up-tempo heavy guitar rockers and well-written dreamy acid-folk tracks: in other words, some folk, some folkrock, a hard-edged bluesy cut with heavy guitar (‘Messiah’) that sounds like Fat (on RCA), and two live songs (‘Midnight Watch’ and ‘Driver’) with filthy, snarling guitar that sound like they slipped off side two of the Oliver Klaus album. The band members were nominally influenced by the big British Invasion bands (the Beatles, the Hollies), as well as Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and the Grateful Dead. As live performers, the Jammers were known for giving incandescent shows with a rougher edge (think Rolling Stones and the Who) than is captured on most of their released material; the live tracks in this set are certainly some of the toughest sounding cuts on this collection. A second Kansas City Jammers LP was recorded during the summer of 1972, but was never released, until now; disc two includes all of the tracks that were meant for that release—all told, 45 minutes of additional Kansas City Jammers music! The “Got Good (if you get it)” album has long been a favorite of psychedelic collectors and those in the know—the Acid Archives entry, for example, is full of compliments for the band’s “strong vocals and songwriting throughout.” The story of the Kansas City Jammers is probably akin to that of many excellent bands who had short careers. As much as they loved music, despite the fact that they had some local success, it was never in the cards for music to become full-time careers for most of the band members. The 24-page booklet has the entire band history, courtesy of an Aaron Milenski interview first written for the legendary Lama Workshop.

An album that many people consider to be the best Greek psychedelic album ever recorded, a belief that would mean that the Four Levels of Existence LP would surpass albums by artists like Aphrodite’s Child, Socrates, Axis, and George Romanos. We’ll let you decide the argument, for there is no doubt of one thing—that this is tremendous hard edged psychedelic rock, originally released on LP in a very small quantity by the private Venus label in 1976. As band leader Athanasios Alatas said: “Through Nick’s musical quest, Mario’s sensitivity, Christos’ madness, and my thoughts, we create many songs, all characterized by a psychedelic music sound, Greek lyrics, and monumental guitar solos.” Since the appearance of our first edition of this album on CD, the excellence of the band has not gone unnoticed: the guitar riff from ‘Someday in Athens’ plays a major role in Jay-Z’s Grammy awardwinning single, ‘Run This Town’ (featuring Rihanna, Kanye West) from his chart-topping “The Blueprint 3” album. Somehow, Kanye West found our original CD edition of this album, and the rest is history. Just another reason for people to discover the legendary, fuzz-guitar laced work of Four Levels of Existence. This carefully documented reissue contains the entire Four Levels of Existence LP, the only recordings they ever made. A twenty-four page booklet includes historical background on the Greek music scene of the early 1970’s, details of the band’s past ,written by Alatas, rare photos of the group, as well as lyrics in both Greek and English. This second CD edition is strictly limited to 1,000 copies.

Great collection of material from legendary Canadian psychedelic band 49th Parallel includes all tracks from their super-rare 1969 Maverick label LP, plus 11 bonus cuts taken from non-LP singles and a 1966 recording released under their original name of Shades of Blond. The group's first two singles, ‘Laborer’ b/w ’You Do Things’ (1967), and ‘She Says’ b/w ‘Citizen Freak’ (1968), are prime pieces of pouting Prairie punk. In the spring of 1969, the 49th Parallel had a hit in Canada and the USA with ‘Twilight Woman’, a lovely song that sounded like a poppier, slightly folkier version of what bands like Tomorrow were doing in England. The success of those fistful of singles resulted in the release of the 49th Parallel’s only album, on MGM affiliate Maverick Records. All hyperbole aside, this is easily one of the top Canadian rock albums ever released. The album contains excellent material, including the pulsating psychedelia of ‘Lazerander Filchy’ and the ultra-strange ‘(The) Magician’, as well as the quintessential punk edginess of ‘Now That I'm a Man’ and ‘(Come On Little Child &) Talk To Me’. Dan Lowe's blazing fuzz guitar work stands out, particularly on ‘Missouri’, and when challenged by organist Jack Velker's brilliant stuttering work on ‘Eye To Eye’, ‘Talk To Me’ and ‘(The) People’. Strong melodies, great playing and sympathetic production, make for a must own collection of songs. The twelve page booklet includes two slightly different views of the band’s history, as well as the notes from the original LP release.

Paul McCartney died in a car crash in the winter of 1966 and the remaining Beatles, wary of losing their standing as the most popular band in existence, replaced him with the winner of look-alike competition, a double named William Campbell. It became the conspiracy theory of the decade.
Believing the band were involved in the alleged deception, and seeking evidence of their involvement, mischievous fans presented ‘proof’ to the world in the form of clues with which they claimed the band peppered their later work. Examples include the faintly-heard “I buried Paul” at the end of Strawberry Fields, the bass guitar shaped funerary flower arrangement that can be seen on the Sgt. Pepper album sleeve and the appearance of William Campbell posing as Paul on the front of Abbey Road, dressed to imitate Paul’s barefoot corpse.
What is in no doubt is that the resulting spate of singles spawned by the rumour are a great collection of ’60s music in their own right. They’re all featured here, with B sides included. LIMITED TO 1000 COPIES ONLY.

Bobby Sant has with his debut compiled a highly acoustic track list infused both with sensitive awareness and a considerable amount of punk attitude. Except for small guest contributions of piano, harmonica and electric guitars, the songs is entirely about Sant's sharp, chanting vocals, rooted somewhere between dark blues and dreamy folk music, and his fingerpicked guitar. Bobby Sant stands alone in the songs as well as in the studio and the desolation is a significant theme going through the whole album. The desolation created after the ones you've left behind, but also in the missing of the ones you haven't met yet and of the situations not yet experienced. "Music is life and death for me, literally. I think I'm a person seeing the world in black or white. The grey parts just don't interest me" "It's just a lonely feeling" is rooted in a blend between ancient folk and the contemporary indie scene in a similar way as acts like Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, and Fleet Foxes. Sants' songs might not feature any lush vocal harmony arrangements but is still creating a highly intense and dreamy soundscape. And like two other big names in the genre, the fellow Swede The Tallest Man on Earth and Kentucky's Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Sant lets his songs be built up by battered and broken elements as well as sincere and tender ones. As a little bonus, the cover photos are taken by Katie Van Zandt, the daughter of the one and only Townes Van Zandt!

After her first album Gudrid performed in Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Germany with great success. Wreck and Reference are an experimental project that conjures up a thoroughly unique mode of electronic doom tinged with no wave. The Californian duo eschew guitars entirely, but you wouldn’t know it from their artfully constructive, intricate compositions; it’s difficult to believe that those crashing “riffs” aren’t borne of magnetic strings and long-forgotten blues licks. Formed by Drummer (Ignat Frege) and multi-instrumentalist (Felix Danbold), the band’s live performances are a mixture of live drums and samples triggered by an MPC style controller, creating a sound that is as unique as it is rooted in the traditional heavy of guitardriven doom: Warning meets Killing Joke, Electric Wizard filtered through an alien command center. The band drew the attention of many blogs with the self-released tape-only Black Cassette, which was later issued on CD by Music Ruins Lives.
