Rising from the ashes of stoner/doom legends Obsessed during the small genre's most fertile post‐Kyuss period, Goatsnake helped define southern California's low‐and‐slow metal scene during the late nineties. With releases on Hydrahead Records, Frank Kozik's famed Man's Ruin, and finally settlingly with the mighty Southern Lord Records (co‐owned by guitarist Greg Anderson), Goatsnake could be considered one of the quintessential stoner/doom bands of their time.
Flower of Disease was originally released on vinyl by Southern Lord in 2000 but has been long out of print. Southern Lord and Burning World Records have worked together in making the Goatsnake discography available again on vinyl. After Flower of Disease, the double set I + Dog Days will be released as well in June/July of 2010. The massive reunion show on Roadburn 2010 will surely revive the interest in this cult doom band with Greg Anderson (Sunn o)))), Guy Pinhas (The Obsessed), Greg Rogers (The Obsessed) and Pete Stahl (Scream, Wool).

Music is an art form that is meant to speak to us beyond the literal. After spending years perfecting his craft, Singer/songwriter, Joseph Michelini decided to take his music to the next plane. Cutting his teeth in coffee houses in Toms River, NJ, Joseph began to introduce different elements, from acoustic bass, to banjo and cello. At that point, River City Extension was born; having the intention of writing orchestral indie rock, while introducing elements of Punk, Country, Folk, and World music. River City Extension found itself going from a 3 piece acoustic act, and developing into a full 8-piece band. The band perfected a staggering and impressive live show, filled with high energy and angst. Finding themselves without a label they went into the studio and recorded their first D.I.Y. EP, Nautical Sabbatical in 2008. The band literally put the CDs together by hand prior to each show. In late 2009 River City Extension hit the studio to record their first LP named The Unmistakable Man. The band along with Eric Sanderson of the Brooklyn based band Pela, spent the next few months working in the studio perfecting each song. The plan was to release an album that would allow the listener to experience a story from start to finish, whatever their interpretation would be. The Unmistakable Man delivers immense and precise orchestration, and is reflective of their energetic live show, this music will stand the test of time. In early 2010 the band inked a deal with XOXO Records (Home to The Gaslight Anthem, Let Me Run, This Charming Man etc...). The band’s new album has already started to get recognition, most recently appearing of the cover and featured in the East Coast Rocker. With the support of their label, friends and family, River City Extension plans to tour diligently across the US and UK.

The shifting line-up adds spontaneity and tension to live performances, with audiences never knowing quite what to expect, save for one certainty: that the music will kick their ass.

Uzi & Ari, Lymbyc Systym, Amanda Rogers, Boy In Static/The Consulate General, The American Dollar, Nolens Volens, Thisquietarmy, Elika and Bogadiga all contribute and help create quite a diverse album, from snippets of R&B and club music to more mellow singer/songwriter moments to hypnotic electronica and trip hop--induced tracks. By the end of 44 minutes, it's clear that Matador Remixed is fully capable of standing on its own as a complete piece of music, independent of Matador and highlighting each of the artists' exceptional compositional skills. Every single track presents a unique and tasteful approach to song craft, making for a satisfying and complete listen from beginning to end. Chris Leo needs no introduction; his involvement with The Lapse and The Van Pelt was only the beginning of his varied and colourful musical journey. With these two bands, Chris found underground success and had begun to lay the foundations, note by note, of what was to come. The Van Pelt was somewhat of an indie rock powerhouse, with Chris joined by Brian Maryansky (who later joined Jets to Brazil) and Toko Yasuda (of Enon and ex-Blonde Redhead). The band released the albums Stealing From Our Favourite Thieves and The Sultans of Sentiment on Gern Blandsten, however they shortly disbanded in 1997. Chris and Toko then formed The Lapse and soon released debut album Betrayal!, again, on Gern Blandsten and second album Heaven Ain’t Happening on Southern Records. After Toko left the band to join Enon in late 1999, Chris continued on his own for a while and eventually signed to Matador in 2000. Chris’ latest musical project, Vague Angels, finally sees Manhattan’s own wordy, wandering minstrel release the much-anticipated The Sunny Day I Caught Tintarella di Luna for a Picnic at the Cemetery on Expect Candy. The album conjures-up the finest elements of Leo’s writing style – from the dissonant riff-based rock of The Lapse to the entrancing melodies of The Van Pelt. However, songs like “The Moon, The Metaphor” hark back to a sound more akin to The Velvet Underground. This album is Chris Leo’s finest accomplishment to date and the sound of a musician / writer with integrity and intelligence as well as heart and soul.

The Birth of Tragedy magazine, with a title lifted from the book by Nietzsche of the same name, marked a certain sort of scabrous and profane looking into the garbaged heart of our present place in space. Simultaneously and unapologetically intellectual and resolutely probing, The Birth of Tragedy’s examination of SEX, DEPRESSION, FEAR, POWER, GOD, LOVE and the almost-soon-to-be-never-released MADNESS issue formed a sui generis basis for reinterpreting the entire premise of spoken word recordings: how you said it mattered not, it was all about what you said. And pulling interviewed artists from the Fear, Power, and God issues of the Birth of Tragedy was easy, as was aligning their varied interests and approaches. Recording was full on guerilla style with everybody recording their contribution on whatever they had available. Art was generated by the inimitable and now artist of some renown Jim Blanchard and with its white vinyl [also initially released on cassette tape] on the US releases and black vinyl on the UK releases [the largely suspect Worker’s Playtime Records], most of the heavy lifting was done. Right in time to have its distribution done in by the folding of distributor [Jem, Systematic, and Rough Trade, in pretty short order] after distributor. Fitful later attempts to reissue the record, most notably by the Swiss German label Skin & Speech, turned up little and in the intervening years since its 1988 release, in addition to the deaths of several of some of the original participants, no one’s approached who was even remotely interested in resurrecting it in anywhere near to its original glory. Until now. And this Blackhouse-led initiative--a rare and limited re-issue of a rare and limited issue—marks the last and fi nal chapter in this glorious and storied enterprise. Though Allen Ginsberg, Anton LaVey from the Church of Satan, Mr. V.O. Real, and Whipping Boy have all shuffl ed off of this mortal coil, the remaining participants— LYDIA LUNCH, MATT HECKERT formerly of SURVIVAL RESEARCH LABS, CHARLES MANSON, JELLO BIAFRA and HENRY ROLLINS—are still destroying anti-culture, one project at a time. For Hertford quintet Proceed this magic has - to put it simply – happened. Formed in 2008, but with roots extending back to the members’ classroom days, Proceed have spent the last two years figuring things out, crafting, creating and coming of age, striving for a sound beyond the boundaries of the norm… something, indeed, to claim as theirs. The result of this musical voyage is debut mini album ‘Curious Electric’, a territorial pissing of wild ambition and monstrous competence that sees Proceed blossoming as musicians, songwriters and, most importantly, a collective - this is the sound of a band truly in charge of their art, a point only emphasised by the fact that the album was self funded, produced and recorded, the latter single-handedly by frontman Daniel Lancaster. A sophisticated, musically erudite assembly of songs that chain complex arrangements and a progressive timbre to huge and highly infectious pop sensibilities, ‘Curious Electric’ will have you hooked and intrigued, it’s vibrant musical alchemy a rare strike against the homogenised silt of Proceed’s would be peers. It’s not every day you need both your thinking cap and your sing-along spirit, but then album’s like ‘Curious Electric’ are hardly a dime a dozen. After all, we wouldn’t call it magic if they were.

Extra Life is the primary musical vehicle for Charlie Looker, singer, guitarist and composer, who has become one of the most intense and respected voices in the New York experimental underground. For years Looker was a core member of legendary brutal chamber ensemble Zs and has also worked with diverse artists such as Dirty Projectors, Glenn Branca, William Parker and the S.E.M. Ensemble. Formed in 2007, Extra Life combines elements of Medieval chant, metallic hardcore, dark neofolk, abstract modernism and lush pop. In 2009, Extra Life did a month-long European tour, playing festivals including Primavera Sound (Barcelona), Villette Sonique (France), Kilbi (Switzerland) and Moers (Germany) and sharing bills with Sonic Youth, Sunn 0))), My Bloody Valentine and Deerhunter. In June 2010 Extra Life’s sophomore album Made Flesh will be released by Africantaoe (Vinyl Version) – CD version was already available on Loaf Recordings since march 2010. Both more accessible and more severe than their previous work, the record extends from fragile acoustic ballads to industrial symphonic assaults. This dramatic spectrum sets the stage for an epic lyrical meditation on themes of masculinity, power, eroticism, the body, death and mysticism. Recorded by art-metal guru Colin Marston (Krallice, Behold the Arctopus) in collaboration with Extra Life’s own Caley Monahon-Ward, the sound of Made Flesh deepens the band’s signature heaviness while also exploring more psychedelic studio treatments, electronic textures and synths.

In 1984 BRONZ the band were one of the first British Rock acts (N.W.B.H.M.) New Wave of British Heavy Metal, to hit America in the mid 80’s, touring their début album “Taken By Storm”. Fronted at that time by Max Bacon on lead vocals, the band were playing 30,000 seater stadiums and their first album went on to sell well over 200,000 albums worldwide. The single “Send Down An Angel” was frequently aired on the then fledgling M.T.V. in America and across Europe, with a video featuring the actress Emma Thompson. It reached a top 10 position in the U.K. rock singles charts and a top 20 in the rock album charts. Just as BRONZ were set for stardom with a second major US tour and album lined up, they imploded. Shaun Kirkpatrick reformed the band and Max Norman (Ozzy Osbourne's Producer) was brought in to record the band’s second album "Carried By The Storm". It was recorded over several months in both the Roundhouse and PowerPlant studio's in London…. but as it was nearing completion the record company went into receivership so it was never released at the time… a ‘lost classic rock album’. Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition winners My Luminaries release their debut album ‘Order From The Chaos’ on Monday 7th June, through their DIY label Cottage Industries/Josaka. Reading born songwriter James Ewers met Manchester bred drummer Sam Stopford at Kingston University in 2004. Together with twins Saul and Dylan Perryman they formed their band. Ill-fated management and record deals followed, with the band tied to a development deal with V2 records that proved fruitless for label and band. Surviving largely unscathed the band spent 2008 writing what could very well have been their second or third album, along with new addition Simon Jones. In January 2009 the band went into Eastcote Studios to self-produce and record their debut long player. Bloody minded and heads ringing with tunes, nothing seemed too ambitious. String quartets were recorded. Horn sections were drafted in. The battleground was set. The album was mixed by the revered and renowned Paul Stacey, who shared the band's ethos that the record should be made for the record's sake, and not for the sake of the radio or iPod. The result is Order From The Chaos. It would only be right that it should be mastered in New York by the legendary Greg Calbi (Springsteen, Dylan etc).
New champions of the band were soon drawn by the scent of something special. Radio 1’s Edith Bowman voted for the band to play at T in the Park Festival in Scotland. Shortly after this, the reality of the five-year slog took its toll on the band and in the weeks that followed, the twins and Simon were replaced by London based lifelong musicians Mark Ferguson, Mike Murray and Leila MacFie.
The band was then chosen from over 1600 entrants as the early bird winners of the Q Magazine Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition, winning a slot at this year’s festival. Judges included Emily Eavis, BBC's Huw Stevens and Q Editor Paul Rees.

Named via a phonetic play on their former incarnation as “Tion” (inspired by the prevalence of said suffix among death metal bands, SuffocaTION, IncantaTION, etc.), Sean has followed up their well-received first release (“Singers Ruin Perfectly Good Bands”) with another contentiously titled EP: “Bike Messengers Aren’t As Cool As They Think They Are”. Both clock in under 20 minutes, but still fully satisfy, like short but onslaught-packed boxing matches. And like a pair of crafty prize fighters, Sean throw down with memorable style: Mike Peterson’s many jazz-master inspirations (such as Jack DeJohnette and Shelly Manne) ride shotgun on 80’s thrash-metal overdrive – and Luke Laplante’s homage to Jon Lord (Deep Purple), Jan Hammer (Mahavishnu Orchestra) and Wayne Horvitz (Naked City) tweaks out to classic grindcore and powerviolence (ala Man is the Bastard and Carcass). Thankfully, the shredding instrumental maelstrom that slays forth emanates from gearsetups devoid of the gadget-overkills that often plague prog-minded musicians.

The recordings were originally meant as a demo for getting live gigs. It also features some violin from Philippe de Chaffoy (who had his own recording studio, where, since the 70s, some musicians like Patrick Conrad, Walter De Buck, recorded some album ; Philippe also worked with Rolan quiet a long time) on the opening track, Dave Foster on bass, and also mando-strat, keyboard/cello arrangement on two tracks. Many people were convinced that the core of Bob’s music does not really need much more than guitar and voice. “Lady don’t go” comes close to Roy Harper. “A moment’s Respite” is an alternative of guitar with keyboards to the way the Lawrence Woolfe project sounded on the now deleted CD "Bridging the Silence". An instrumental like “Flux and Flow” shows equal expressiveness to songs. This song collection contains many of Bob’s classics, many of my favourites. The songtext of “What are you doing tonight”, about romantic longing within an environmental artifiality and alienation, reminds in that context of one of Ann Clarck’s early poetry songs where she wrote about the superficiality of people when going out. Songs like "Same old story",, "only what you think you are" and "heart beat" and the instrumentals refer clezrly to the 70s singer-songwriter genre (songs with guitar) in which Bob is rooted in. In general the LP is a very good starter because it shows Bob Theil who he is with his general core expression, in a timeless context.

Sadly the band had to call it quits before unleashing a sophomore effort, but the Scottish-born singer Ross Thompson has re-surfaced as one of the singers in the unique “Heavy Metal A Cappella” band VAN CANTO, (Napalm Records) who are taking Europe by storm these days.

DELIRION have supported Adagio on the Spanish leg of their “Tour Archangels In Black 2009” and also will be touring in Spain with Opera Magna shortly.

Norwegian quintet GRIFFIN was one of the country’s finest exports in the 2000’s along with those Black Metal bands and of course salmons! It’s no secret that Alexi Laiho of CHILDREN OF BODOM wanted the founder Kai Nergaard as his guitar partner when Alexander Kuoppala left the band. Following “No Holds Barred” produced by non other than Alexi himself and a successful appearance at “Wacken Open Air” in 2004, “Lifeforce” was the band’s 4th album produced by the Grammy-nominated Andy LaRocque from KING DIAMOND. They ended up in touring with KING DIAMOND throughout Europe in 2006. Lead guitar player Marcus Silver went on to form his own band TRIOSPHERE and released “Onwards” in 2006, touring with ARCH ENEMY recently.

Currently they are finalizing the songwriting for the long overdue sophomore effort.

Brazilian answer to American Hair Metal movement, PLEASURE MAKER hails from Rio de Janeiro. The independent debut release "Love On The Rocks" has been re-mastered and features a completely new and truly improved artwork by Brazilian artist Gustavo Sazes (Arch Enemy, In Flames, Firewind, Mystic Prophecy etc). They have released the second album “Twisted Desire” on American Perris Records.

CHEENO was founded by live and studio musicians of “Autumnblaze”, a band which released 6 CDs worldwide via Prophecy Productions, and Jennie Kloos, an experienced vocal soloist who previously performed for various big projects (such as the Munich Symphonics – Circus meets Classic) and for different TVand advertisement productions (including Star Search Germany, TUI and the “Deutsche Kinderkrebsstiftung”) in August 2005. In 2006, CHEENO competed with 800 bands to be nominated for the “German Rock and Pop” award. The band got in effortlessly and was finally awarded “Best Alternative Act 2006” with their song “Silizium”. In addition to explosive Rock shows, CHEENO started playing special unplugged sessions in 2007 that sold out completely. In summer 2008, CHEENO signed a worldwide record deal with Prevision Music, a sub division of Supreme Chaos Records to release their first full length album “The Next Step Will Be The Hardest” which received overwhelming reviews. At the end of 2009, CHEENO focused on writing songs for the successor “2 Face Macy” due out in May 2010 – once again with illustrations by Julie Keene who also finished the work for a comic book which will be released at the same time.

ANOTHER PERFECT DAY was founded back in 1993 with a classic band line-up, and the band was quite active within the German Death Metal underground at that time. Even at that time, the band classified its sound as a mix between melodic Gothenburg death metal and melancholic British doom death metal. Plans were made to record the debut album in 1997. But the band split up right before the recordings. The only audio clips left from this time are three songs which eventually were to be used as bonus tracks for future albums. After the split, songwriter, guitar player and vocalist Kristian “Kohle” Kohlmannslehner concentrated on his work as studio and live musician – but above all, on his work as producer which resulted in opening the Kohlekeller Studios. After numerous productions (for bands like Sieges Even, Crematory, Flowing Tears, Benighted, Powerwolf) the idea came up to transfer the music of ANOTHER PERFECT DAY to the new millenium by making use of the new technical possibilities with a decent degree of sophistication in forms of a solo project. In 2005, the two songs were composed spontaneously (“the lullaby”, “the ghost, she slept beside me”) which marked the new beginning of ANOTHER PERFECT DAY. The first euophoric reactions and finally the contact to Supreme Chaos Records were the reason for the band's decision to work out a detailed album. Because SCR focused on sophisticated music of remarkable artists, preparations for the release of the debut album “The Gothenburg Post Scriptum” were made shortly after. However, it should take 2 more years before all recordings were finished and all guests could be invited to contribute an individual part for this albulm. In any case: the result exceeds all expectations. Now, ANOTHER PERFECT DAY's debut album will be released in 2010. 13 years later but way stronger, more mature and more profound than once planned.

Punx Soundcheck were formed back in 1998 when John was working in the studio next door to Arif and the pair soon became friends discovering they had much common ground. Collaborating in the studio their variety of projects combined John’s knowledge of house and techno with Arif’s feel for hip hop and the underground beats and breaks scene and joined forces on a full-time basis both as DJs and production outfit. Now Pale Music (Berlin) release the Punx first LP as a double album. The title "When Machines Ruled The World " refers to the time when music was made with old anologue machines, as Punx Soundcheck use only anologue equipment . While CD1 of the album is geared for home listening, the tracks on CD2 are much more club oriented.

Trace is an electronic project by David Impey, a composer and producer who has a successful track record in soundtrack production. ‘Under Cover’ is a collection of three cover versions of established tracks. The most wellknown of these is ‘Tubular Bells – Part 1’ by Mike Oldfield. This symphonic folk-rock piece has been re-imagined using the electronic palette through such genres as minimalism (e.g. Steve Reich), funk rock, techno and psychedelia. The same approach has been used in the interpretation of George Winston’s piano piece ‘September – Colors / Dance’. Whilst the Trace version starts off from the point of the original concept, it develops the piece using dance and musique concrete to give the new version something of a widescreen feel. The Neighbours Complain was a piece written by Norman Impey.
