2011 was a very good year for The Gates of Slumber, we had come off a run of great shows with Cathedral and the amazing experience of recording The Wretch in London with Jaime Gomez in December of 2010, and we were fresh off touring with Place of Skulls and our headliner set at Roadburn when we got the call that Orange Goblin was wanting us to support them as they tried to get a full US tour in 13 days 13 grizzly days where we had no air conditioning in the van as we trekked across the deep south the realities of touring in the US vs Europe were laid bare on this one, there was the infamous decided lack of everything that we were dealing with as we confronted blown out tires, a lack of sleep, a lack of food and mostly a lack of time. By the time we had reached The Clubhouse in Tempe we were beyond exhausted and yet somehow we had one of the best sets of this era of the band. Maybe it was the cheap speed . The world may never know. Arizona had always been strangely good to us, maybe being baked by the sun like that has had an effect on the locals as to make them prone to picking up what we were putting down. Maybe it s the fact that drinks needed to be kept back by the bar, I don t know. But I do know that the sound man had the common decency to not try and fix the sound by adding high end to the guitar in the mix. All too often they try to do that and it ruins it. It s supposed to sound like that, no it s not broken. Set it, and go get a drink . Which is what the dear man did. He missed The Scovrge ov Drvnkeness in fact and barely hit record in time for Bastards Born. The rest is what you hear, warts and all . A metal touchstone of immense proportions - progressive, epic and classic all at once. Pale Divine celebrates 25 years with its most definitive statement to date, Consequence of Time. It s the sound of a band whose sonic evolution is in full stride and unfolds across eight songs of enchanting songwriting and unrivaled metallic diversity. Bands are rarely looking to reinvent themselves when they reach the 25-year mark. It s a milestone worth celebrating and perhaps, above all else, an indicator of a formula in place that does not need tinkering. Truth be told, most bands who have lasted for such a period would be foolish to do so otherwise. For Pennsylvania metal veterans Pale Divine, the reinvention that takes place on their sixth full-length and first for Cruz Del Sur Music, Consequence of Time, was purely unintentional. It has, however, ultimately unearthed their finest hour. When Pale Divine welcomed former Beelzefuzz guitarist Dana Ortt into the fold in 2018, it was an easy call for the band to make guitarist/vocalist Greg Diener and drummer Darin McCloskey also played with Ortt in Beelzefuzz and were well-aware of his musical abilities and the chemistry the three men shared. Ortt has beefed up the Pale Divine formation (which is completed by bassist Ron McGinnis) he is both a gifted guitarist and vocalist, something the band maximized on Consequence of Time. The album finds Diener sharing vocals with Ortt a first for Pale Divine and furthermore, it has unlocked several new gateways to which the band explored across eight songs of immense depth and haunting melodic flourish. Recorded in late 2019/early 2020 with producer Richard Whittaker, Consequence of Time bears the mark of a band leveraging its wide array of influences for an album that goes beyond what fans may expect from Pale Divine. While elements of the band s essential back catalog remain in place on cuts like opener Tyrants & Pawns and the title track, it is the free-flowing guitar melody barrage on Satan in Starlight, the early progressive rock/metal lurch of Broken Martyr and the mystical wanderings of Phantasmagoria that immediately separates Consequence of Time from previous Pale Divine albums. Not only is there a greater emphasis guitar interplay, Ortt s vocals emerge as the perfect complement to Diener s soulful mid-range, coming to a head on the spiraling closing track, Saints of Fire. The cover artwork for Consequence of Time was created by artist Brian Tutlo and is the perfect visual accompaniment to an album that, while not conceptual, describes the evolution of the band: Everything changes as a consequence of time. Pale Divine has aged beautifully the last 25 years.

Sheer death metal heaviness and doom collide on this earth-moving debut! On their debut self-titled album, Stygian Crown introduces the sound of Candlethrower to the world: A devastating combination of doom and death metal, topped off by classically-trained vocals! They call it Candlethrower. It conjures up images of doom-dancing and rolling tanks; doom-on-death; death-on-doom; Candlemass and Bolt Thrower melded together. Considering the background and sizeable résumés of its members, it wasn t by accident Los Angeles s Stygian Crown happened upon this sound. On their debut self-titled foray, Stygian Crown offers something few bands have in their arsenal: An album tuned to B, with a 26 bass drum and a singer who doesn t need auto-tune. Stygian Crown was formed in 2018 by former Morgion and current Gravehill drummer Rhett Davis, who tapped his Gravehill bandmates Nelson Miranda (guitar) and Jason Thomas (bass) to help launch the band. Morbid Eclipse guitarist Andy Hicks was the next to join, and with the help of longtime friend Bob Kassing, classically-trained vocalist Melissa Pinion was discovered after Kassing (who has since sadly passed away) introduced her to Davis. The band released their first demo, Through Divine Rite, in 2018, then started work on what would become their self-titled album. The album s drums were tracked at Trench Studios (Exhumed, Hirax) with John Haddad. Guitars, bass and vocals were recorded at Miranda s home studio, and mixing and mastering were handled by Mark Kelson of The Eternal s Kelsonic Studios in Australia. The writing sessions for the self-titled were largely helmed by Miranda and Davis, with Miranda providing the riffs and Davis cementing the arrangements. While all three songs from Through Divine Rite made the jump to the self-titled album ( Trampled into the Earth, Through Divine Rite and Flametongue ), the remainder of the songs were created through trial-and-error. Stygian Crown emerged with a batch of songs that each bears their own identity but are unmistakably crushing and epic. Karen, Lorna and Joleen McLaughlin: In their home in the North of Donegal, the three sisters have been known for many years as the Henry Girls. The musicians convince above all by their complex three-part singing and are regarded as one of the most important new folk ensembles in Ireland. On their livealbum "The Henry Girls & Band Perform The Music often The Boswell Sisters" the musicians take a bow before the legendary Boswell Sisters, who in the 20s and 30s of the last century created were the most successful American ladies' singing trio. The album was performed live as part of the concert series "Shout Sisters Shout: A Musical Tribute To The Boswell Sisters By The Henry Girls". The recordings were created in a circus tent in Malin: that is the name of the picturesque little town on the peninsula of Inishowen, the Home of the Henry Girls. The concert was part of the Eragail Arts Festival 2019. "We had this evening a wonderful audience, which is now also part of the recordings," the Henry Girls write. The Boswell Sisters ventured their first musical steps in the vaudevilles of New Orleans and moved confidently between jazz, blues, dixieland, ragtime and gospel. In 1931 they moved to New York, made recordings with the legendary Brunswick label and played with the top Jazz musicians of their time, including Jimmy & Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller. Beginning of the 30's they appeared in some movies and were regularly in the radio show of Bing Crosby to see. With the song "When I Take My Sugar To Tea" from the Marx Brothers film "The Marx Brothers on See", which is one of the highlights of the live album, they came out really big.

The band Sen Svaja consists of three women. All of them possess origins of pixies. Agota is pinching the strings of the zither, Živilė - tickling the drums with her stone-like fingers, Dorota - exulting from the top of a birch. On the third day of the young Moon, they met up in the depths of the forest, in an abandoned bathhouse. After refreshing themselves by drinking some water vapour they pulled out a DOWRY FROM A SWAMP.

At music conferences, festivals and exhibitions I kept bumping into Daryana Antipova from Russia. We talked extensively and there was no shortage of ideas, but we never got around to putting them into action. When her band Vedan Kolod started gathering pace again and she approached me about working together on a release, I didn’t hesitate. And before long, the conversation returned to music in general and the Russian music scene in particular, and the idea to put together a sampler of Russian music emerged. Daryana started sending me a whole host of fascinating artists and I was so impressed and, frankly, overwhelmed, that I was happy to put her in charge of the project. I love listening to these CDs and I hope that you enjoy immersing yourself in the fabulous music of this vast country as much as we do.

After releasing a demo ("Thecodontia", 2018) and an EP ("Jurassic", 2019), Italy's bass-driven black/death metal prehistoric beast THECODONTION is back with its first full length album, "Supercontinent". Thus far, the band's material has been uncompromisingly fast-paced and length-wise short, featuring their signature distorted double bass attacks and blistering bass solos. With "Supercontinent" THECODONTION move towards a more atmospheric and intricate direction, with tribalistic drumming, slower and lengthier riffing, and wailing reverb-drenched leads, all played on bass except for a baritone guitar guest solo on "Laurasia-Gondwana". Their blast-beating fury is nevertheless always present, this time around with a lot more variety in the riffing department. There are also four mostly non-metal instrumental segments in the forms of intro, interludes and outro, in which THECODONTION further expand their sonic palette, with bass ambience explorations and atmospheric rock leanings.

His work truly carries the stigmas of a Leonardesque genius applied to a musical score, because of the constant tension between an exuberant creative research and an evident love for classical canons of ideal beauty and formal perfection.

In 2020, Stephane FDL and Lukas Bouchenot took the drums. Reshma Goolamy (bass), Romain Martini (guitar), Alice Thiel (synths, guitar), Joaquin Bermudez (saz, sitar), Didié Nietzche (soundscapes) and Leslie V. (black magic scenography) joined in 2019, thus changing the band into a real drone orchestra.
