The group was formed in 95/96 by Baal and Les. The band’s debut self-titled CD was released in 96 and let the band join the leaders of the so-called „retro style”. After a four years break for the band, Jeff joins HELL-BORN on bass and vocals (he would leave that in favor of Baal, and switch to guitar later on). The band starts with serious rehearsals and enters the walls of the “Hertz” studio for the first time. This starts a new episode in the band’s history, marked with the releases of the “Hellblast” mini-album, “The Call of Megiddo” and the “Legacy of the Nephilim” albums. Each release was followed by great press-reviews, and the world was terrorized with hundreds of live-shows, including two North-American tours. The album “Legacy o the Nephilim” leads the band to sign an endorsement deal with “MAYONES” Guitars & Basses custom workshop. In June 2005 HELL-BORN enters the “HERTZ” studio once again to record their third full-length album, “Cursed Infernal Steel”. The album was enthusiastically reviewed by the press, and the band decided once again to tour and devastate the Polish grounds in late 2006. Next year, 2007, was spent on preparations for recording new album “Darkness” in HERTZ STUDIO.

The Dan Reed Network was a Pop Rock, Funk Fusion group that was way ahead of their time. They ruled the Portland music scene in the late 80’s early 90’s. The band signed to Mercury Records with the aid of Derek Shulman, (who was enjoying huge success with Bon Jovi and Cinderella), and were managed by legendary concert promoter Bill Graham. In winter 1987, the group released an eponymous debut album which was produced by Bruce Fairbairn (who had worked with Bon Jovi) and was engineered by Mike Fraser at Little Mountain Sound Studios in Vancouver. The first single "Ritual" cracked the Billboard Top 40 and was in heavy rotation on MTV.
Breathless was their first EP and still resonates with passion and soul. The lineup on this record is Dan Reed, lead vocals, Brion James, guitar, backing vocals, Daniel Pred, drums, Melvin Brannon II, bass, keybas, backing vocals, Rick DiGiallonardo, keyboards with Leslie Carter doing backup vocals, Danny Schauffler on saxophone, and Nathaniel Phillips - keybass on 'Mind & Body.'

This is the sound of German Oak” Julian Cope During the summer of 1972, best remembered for the bloodshed of the Munich Olympics, the 5-man Dusseldorf instrumental group German Oak entered the Luftschutzbunker (Air Raid Shelter) studio to record their first, eponymous album. The strange acoustic conditions in the bunker made the music, which was a series of long, spacious guitar jams, sound distant and filled with echo. Andy Fernbach is a folk/blues singer and guitarist from Bournemouth whose first recordings on Me and the devil compilation (LP, 1968); Duckin’ and dodgin’, Broken down Engine and Hard Time Killing Floor (he’s backed by Nick Whiffen on harmonica on the first two) were interesting arrangements of traditional tunes. This album (featuring J.D. Langer on guitar) is not just a rare find, it is ultra rare. The vinyl for this out of print album fetches $500 sometimes. And for those collectors who know their stuff, it is probably worth it. So enjoy this!

Phillips was still in pretty much of a traditional early-'60s folk troubadour mode on his debut album, on which he's accompanied only by his 12-string acoustic guitar. He did stand out from much of the competition (certainly in Britain, where the American singer was based by the time of this mid-'60s release) by virtue of his eclectic repertoire, impassioned delivery, and imaginative arrangements. He wasn't as much of an innovator as peers such as Dino Valenti and Fred Neil were in this respect, but like them he was breaking away to some degree from hidebound, stiff folk deliveries. He wasn't recording much original material, though, and this set is largely devoted to covers of songs by the likes of Phil Ochs (including the obscure "I'm Tired"; Ochs' own version wouldn't be released until the 1980s), Hamilton Camp's "Pride of Man" (years before Quicksilver Messenger Service popularized it as a rock song), and Travis Edmonson's title track, which is better known under the title "The Drifter." The inclusion of a couple of mainstream pop/musical standards ("It Was a Very Good Year" and "My Favourite Things") was certainly a departure for a hip young folksinger of the time. The three original tunes were OK, though not outstanding -- numbers that, like most of the album, project an earnestness that is both likable and dated. Shortly after its first appearance, this was issued again under the title Favorite Things; in 1999, it was reissued on CD by Wounded Bird.

Pi Corp features the early works and innovative sounds of electronic music Pioneer Alan Howarth. Alan began his musical career in Cleveland playing with bands like ‘The Tree Stumps’, ‘The Renaissance Faire’, ‘The Silk’, and the first electronic band in Cleveland called ‘Braino’. Howarth went on to become one of the most sought after composer / sound designers in Hollywood. Also featured are some unforgettable and strangely haunting vocals by Woody Leffel; formerly of RCA recording artist Granicus. Woody plates a unique slice of Pi with the raw vocal style of Robert Plant and an improvisational storytelling style that he coined as “speech-sing”. The whole Pi Corp mission was to create music and lyrics spontaneously. “With the exception of “Together” and “Just Another Song”, our only two attempts at songwriting, and the two tracks with Marilyn, everything on the CD was conceived and played with absolutely no prior discussion or rehearsal… it was recorded just as it happened” says the guitarist Guy Bickel. The additional bonus tracks give the listener a much better sense of the evolving band and their mission. Pieces such as “Rock N Roll Show” and “Never Sell Out on You”, show off the extraordinary, improvisational talents of Woody Leffel. “Let Them Eat Pi”, “Organic”, and “Hash Market” is Alan at his synthesizer best.

There is no debating that Dust On The Breakers have a refinement that marks out their debut release as a masterpiece amongst a raft of far less noteworthy musical outpourings that are no doubt cluttering your desk at this time. Core members of the band, Jeff Linsenmaier (The Czars), Jeff Davenport (d.biddle), and Tim Husmann (Crooked Fingers) – ably assisted by a rotation of contributors drawn in from The Fray, 16 Horsepower, Woven Hand et al - have been active as Dust On The Breakers since their initial meeting in 2006. Thankfully, four years on, the collision of understandably busy touring schedules and band commitments eventually culminated in the authoring of the emotionally electric American Reclamation. Recorded in Denver and mixed by acclaimed producer Martin Feveyear (REM / Crooked Fingers / Damien Jurardo / Jesse Sykes), the record is a musical purge; a wild abandonment of former loves and lovers, a forward march to new, uncharted hopes. Its opening track, "Charred Metropolis," introduces vocalist Anna Slade, her voice a demure echo against Linsenmaier's slowcore croon. Likewise, "Quiet Please" is an ambient exploration of atmospherics and rumbling piano parts and "Summer Rain Storms", a triumphant emergence from the record's beautiful, unfathomable depths.

The only member from SLAUTER XSTROYES to form this band was lead vocalist Jonathon Stewart, which to me is still one of the best vocalists ever. Infact, he's right up there with legandary voices such as Rob Halford and King Diamond, if not better. The music is very much a continuation of legendary SLAUTER XSTROYES sound and even 2 songs from the SLAUTER days were re-recorded on this album. The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal in my opinion has basically 2 eras. The first era is from 1979 to 1981 which is considered the big boom of Heavy Metal. The 2nd era is from 1982 to 1986-ish. So taking us into the mid 80’s a band from the U.K. emerged called Deep Switch. They looked and sounded like no other band and that still holds true today. They never really took heavy metal too seriously, but that doesn’t mean their music wasn’t serious, because it was, although it was laced with a lot of humor. I think Deep Switch was more influenced by Monty Python than heavy metal. This is extremely unique and original material. Even if you’re not into obscure N.W.O.B.H.M., you should at least treat yourself to hearing this just for the experience. The release consists of 2 CDs, the first one being their classic album, while the 2nd disc is a collection of all their demos. They had a very short lived career, but a very longwinded tale of their history is written inside this massive booklet along with ton of band photos. This band is so original and unique I really couldn’t even point you to some other similar sounding bands.

Cascadian black metal band SKAGOS and Louisville’s Anarcho-pagan black metal band PANOPTICON have conspired to release this split CD. Both SKAGOS and PANOPTICON have become household names in the progressive North American black metal scene. The first two tracks are by SKAGOS while the second two are Panopticon’s.
SKAGOS’ contributions to this split evolve from their previous material. On the tracks: “Smoldering Embers” (12:33) and “Anamnesis II: A Dry, Sterile Thunder, Without Rain” (15:15) SKAGOS presents a cinematic experience that is filled with both Darkthrone-esque riffs, unapologetic clean vocals and everything in between. SKAGOS is comprised of two: Ray Hawes and Isaac Symonds. Since 2004, SKAGOS has released a demo, an EP and split with the band TOMHET, and the band has triggered a ridiculous amount of “buzz” regarding their extremely well-received full length Ást (2009).
PANOPTICON is comprised of one individual—“A. Lundr” who like SKAGOS does not play shows. While PANOPTICON is defiantly a black metal band, Lundr manages to incorporate other genres, including shoegaze, post-rock, crust as well as folk elements. On this recording Lundr strays more than ever into postrock territory. Pagan Flames released the CD version of PANOPTICON’s second record Collapse in 2009, later released on vinyl by FLENSER records in 2010. The latter version featured guest vocals by AMEBIX’S Rob “the Baron” Miller, cementing the ever more apparent connection between crust and black metal. The tracks on this release are part 2 of PANOPTICON’S opus “On the Subject of Mortality,” Lundr’s two part meditation on ones own mortality. Part 1 of “On the Subject of Mortality” is to be released by the label Pagan Flames as part of a split with naturalistic folk black metal band WHEN BITTER SPRING SLEEPS.
