Band:VACIVUS
Album:ANNIHILISM
Label:Profound Lore
Format:CD
Genre:Death Metal
With their new album “Annihilism”, UK death metal unit VACIVUS will be poised to become one of the isle’s most prominent death metal bands. Impressions were made with their “Rite Of Ascension” demo EP, their “Nuclear Chaos” 7” and ultimately their “Temple Of The Abyss” debut LP from 2017 which saw the band make their stain within the UK death metal scene. “Annihilism” though will see VACIVUS will make their impact with more punishing and unrelenting force by offering a serpentine death metal treasure that threads the fibers of dark unyielding brutality, technical proficiency and refined death metal musicality of the highest plateau. An ideal and seamless myriad of what a modern-day death metal offering should embroider, “Annihilism” takes the VACVIUS sonic paradigm to a level beyond anything they’ve previously done. With the masterful production courtesy of Greg Chandler (Esoteric) in his Priory Recording studios with final mastering via Dan Lowndes, “Annihilism” benefits from an exemplary death metal sound which holds an archetypal aesthetic on what makes “Annihilism” such a dense and complex, yet escalating and suffocating work of true death metal artistry.

Band:PH
Album:OSIRIS HAYDEN
Label:SVART
Format:CD
Genre:PSYCHEDELIC ELECTRONICA
Like an Ostrobothnian Föllakzoid, experimental electronic soundscapes pulverise with panache and a pop‐like sensibility. Osiris Hayden is contemporary Finno‐Ugric Krautrock, in keeping with the band’s earlier work but much more cinematic in scope than ever before. Vangelis‐inducing, distorted Blade‐Runner landscapes give way to the march of slick Terminator machines crushing human bones under foot. Psychonaut futurism from a band fusing genres ahead of their own time, and in a strange but logical evolution of the PH journey. There’s no surprise why festivals like Roadburn, Roskilde, Flow and Tuska have championed this group to represent one of the finest examples of the modern Finnish experimental rock scene. Referring to PH, Julian Cope urged people to “get this stunning quintet out of the cold weather and into the charts.” Osiris Hayden feels like the album that will now propel them out of the smoke‐filled sub‐basement venues that birthed them, on to the à la mode coffee tables and dance floors of even the most discerning and cutting edge audio savant. PH’s 20 years of psychedelic space‐travel lend them a gargantuan understanding of the roots of music, towards the core meaning and power of transcendental sound. Fine‐art museum‐level workmanship for apocalyptic illegal factory raves and lysergic comedowns. Look no further for a sound beyond the limits of modern psychedelia. These Finns are way out there.

Band:NEMESIS
Album:XCELSIOR
Label:SVART
Format:2LP
Genre:AMBIENT TECHNO
NEMESIS is one of the pioneering acts in the Finnish electronic music scene, representing the more relaxed field of it. Their debut album Xcelsior first saw the daylight in CD form in 1994, and this band‐approved double LP marks its vinyl debut. Xcelsior already has all the elements which make the group’s music personal and recognizable. The music has layers on top of each other and side by side, where influences from various decades of electronic music play effortlessly amid modern digital technology and electronic beats. Real and digitally created vintage analog machinery resonate warmth and soundscapes that arise from the collective memory of cosmic sound explorers create familiar hum in the background. Stellar coordinates are correctly set as thick pulses of sound transport the cosmic ship towards the horizon in spiral movement, and from time time gravitation loses its grip of the vessel. Xcelsior is electronic storytelling at its best: a mixture of pulsating modern electronic sounds, ambient, psychedelia, the progressive vision of synth pioneers of the seventies, celestial geometry and nebular hum.

The Svart Mondo series is dedicated to bringing some of the most obscure, fascinating records that time forgot back into the spotlight. Curated by the Svart team of dedicated music nerds and specialists, Svart Mondo is a showcase of a musical era long gone, collected from many unusual and less traveled parts of the world. The series commences with two pieces of hard psychedelic progressive rock from the early 70s from Argentina. Formed in Buenos Aires in 1972, the quintet recorded the eponymous album in 1974 on the Promúsica label. Ave Rock is a Latin American take on classic organbased progressive rock, full of time changes and alternating tempos with a good splattering of psychedelia and symphonic rock in places. This is the first time this rarity is being reissued on vinyl. The pressing is limited to 500 copies and comes with liner notes by renowned psych historian Vernon Joynson.

The album, released on the local T.K. label, has since become a very rare collector’s item and has not been reissued on vinyl, until now.

Pacific Northwest death/doom metal abomination MORTIFERUM follow-up their lauded 2017 “Altar Of Decay” demo with their anticipated debut LP “Disgorged From Psychotic Depths”. With the recognition the band got within the death metal underground through their demo (initially self-released, later on released on vinyl through Profound Lore Records) alongside consistent touring and nonstop live activity, MORTIFERUM had already brought awareness upon themselves as one of the more notable and promising new US death metal bands today. Now with “Disgorged From Psychotic Depths”, the monstrous offering MORTIFERUM have spewed forth crawls as an anguished slab of death doom filth of the most wretched order. Dark and foreboding through monolithic brutal crestfallen riffs and malformed dissonant rhythmic rumblings “Disgorged From Psychotic Depths” is a towering and dreadful benefaction of atmospheric imposing death metal ruin and depravity reeking of the stench of the early ‘90s American and Finnish death metal scenes.

Band:FIFTH ALLIANCE, THE
Album:THE DEPTH OF THE DARKNESS
Label:BURNING WORLD RECORDS
Format:LP
Genre:BLACK METAL, SLUDGE METAL, DOOM METAL, POST-METAL
The Fifth Alliance was conceived in Breda, The Netherlands late 2006. The newly formed band took inspiration from chaotic hardcore bands like Coalesce, Botch, Converge combined with heavy acts like Isis, Cult Of Luna, Poison The Well, which resulted in the band selfreleased EP, ‘Fear Consumption’, in 2007. Their follow-up EP ‘Reflections On Consciousness’ saw the light of day through Crossfirecult Records in 2009, packed with dissonant riffs, rhythmic twists and heavy grooves. Playing numerous shows strengthened the band as a solid, tight playing force to be reckoned with. No Clean Singing blog states on the new album: “The Depth Of The Darkness is the third full-length by the Dutch band (from Breda) The Fifth Alliance, but it is my own first encounter with their music. Actually, all I’ve encountered so far is a track named “Black“. It not only makes a great companion to the first three songs in today’s collection, it’s just fucking great all by itself.

Band:THE GOODIES
Album:THE CRICKLEWOOD TAPES
Label:NETWORK
Format:3CD
Genre:SOUNDTRACK/ HUMOUR
Since the early days of television, programme-makers have used music to enhance their visuals – but few did it as well as The Goodies. So intrinsic is the show’s music that it is impossible to imagine its absence. And yet, due to the production policies of the time, the source recordings were disposed of once the show itself was completed. Most of these reel-to-reel audio tapes were recycled for other productions, but five original session tapes have survived and are presented here as a unique artefact of the recording process used on this world-famous comedy series. Written by Bill Oddie in partnership with Michael Gibbs and Dave MacRae, the series’ specially-composed music was eclectic in scope and covered a wide range of styles and formats (including jingles and fake adverts). The sessions on this set feature some fan favourites – Dumb Animals, Berserk, Working the Line, Bonecrusher.

Band:SONS OF ALPHA CENTAURI
Album:BURIED MEMORIES (LIMITED)
Label:H42 Records
Format:LP
Genre:STONER/DESERT ROCK
This summer Sons of Alpha Centauri will release Buried Memories ‐ a collaborative post metal colossus and the second part of the journey that started with Continuum in 2018. This unique release has been mixed by industrial metal icon Justin K. Broadrick and ambient gloom metal maestro James Plotkin. Buried Memories contains two new 10 minute slabs of eclectic ambient progressive rock and a series of interpretative remixes of the theme tracks by both Broadrick and Plotkin. Justin Broadrick collaborates with the band on side A through the progressive riff saga of ‘Hitmen’ which he has mixed and also provided two remixes in his guise as ‘Jesu’ and another as the eponymous ‘JK Flesh’. These three staggering pieces of music elapse over 27 minutes of pure instrumental voyage in a way that only Sons of Alpha Centauri and Justin Broadrick could deliver! James Plotkin and SOAC collaborate through several tracks including ‘Warhero’ ‐ a sprawling 10 minute odyssey and a masterful remix of ‘SS Montgomery’ ‐ the single from the bands landmark instrumental debut album. After ‘entering the Continuum’ the listener must now ‘bury their memories’. The darkness will envelope the listeners in this second part of their epic sprawling progressive dark rock saga.

Band:CHRISTOPHER
Album:WHAT'CHA GONNA DO?
Label:LION PRODUCTIONS
Format:LP
Genre:PSYCH
Official authorized reissue of the legendary psychedelic LP by Christopher from South Carolina. One of the absolute best American psychedelic LPs of the 1960’s, and one of the rarest—a copy went for close to $4,000 the last time an original copy sold online, and nearly double that changed hands off-line for an original! Every song is of the highest quality—they’re all self-penned too—with an accessible sound the suggests that Christopher could have had more widespread success had they ever made it out of their native South Carolina. The “What’cha Gonna Do?” album was pressed in 1969 to use as a demo (which is why as few as 100 copies exist), but you'd never know it based on the overall quality of the production. When you've got blistering acid rock mixed with acid blues, with a couple of thoughtful melodic songs for good measure, you've got a recipe for something special. Christopher recorded "What'cha Gonna Do?" at Arthur Smith Studios in Charlotte, NC, a state of the art 8-track studio. Smith himself was a famous performer and songwriter who wrote 'Guitar Boogie' and 'Dueling Banjos.' It was the best studio money could buy in the South at the time, an astonishingly expensive $62 per hour, but the studio wasn't quite sure what to make of Christopher! The engineer, Jerry Black, introduced himself by saying, "This is the first 8-track stereo recording of an acid rock band I've ever done" in his Southern drawl.” And so it was.

Band:VARIOUS ARTISTS
Album:SILVER GIRLS & INDIAN PIPES
Label:MISTY LANE
Format:LP
Genre:POP, NEDERBEAT, FOLK/PSYCH
The very best of Penny Wise/Amsterdam and Peter Bewley. In the history of the Nederbeat genre the band Penny Wise is simply legendary. Their story begins in 1967. Former members Donald and Martin van Os grow up in the western part of Amsterdam. Their first group, So What, plays a lot in the Amsterdam beat clubs, sometimes opening up for Dutch major Beat groups such as The Motions and The Golden Earrings. So What’s manager André Heilbron works as a roadie for Amsterdam’s #1 group The Outsiders and then the group comes under the wings of the famous impresario John B. van Setten. “Silver Girl” and “Jackie’s S.S.S.” appear on their first single. Penny Wise presents itself – both in sound and fashion - as a very exuberant British mod group. “Silver Girl” is nowadays rated among connoisseurs as one of the best and most exciting examples of Dutch 60’s Freakbeat.

Band:BLACK SNAKE MOAN
Album:PHANTASMAGORIA
Label:Teen Sound
Format:LP
Genre:NEO-PSYCH/BLUES-PSYCH/DESERT BLUES
Black Snake Moan is a blues psych one-man-band. Many episodes of “Phantasmagoria” imaginary trip are reminiscent of the early Doors' Indian raga guitars, the 13th Floor Elevators's reverberations and the white light echoes of The Velvet Underground. From vintage Sixties sounds in the likes of the Electric Prunes and Ultimate Spinach via a certain ‘80s psych-wave brought by early Southern Death Cult, Opal or even Sister Of Mercy, Black Snake Moan crawls onto the Neo-psychedelic movement build around BJM and The Black Angels, strongly influenced by indian desert imagery. Eventually, “Phantasmagoria" finds its way to look into the “future” as well, exploring space-age-sounds with its one-man-band formula.

Label:DENOMINATION RECORDS
Format:CD
Genre:HEAVY METAL
Old school heavy metal band WASTED from Denmark, releases their third album on Denomination Records after a long break in the band, going for about 30 years and a reunion in 2013. Since then, they have been touring around Denmark, on big metal festivals as well as on many underground scenes in major cities in the country. A new lineup was a reality in 2017, and WASTED decided to make a re-recording of their two early albums “Halloween… The Night Of” from 1984, and “Final Convulsion” from 1985 with new arrangements on old tracks and a brand new track - which is also the title song on the new album “Electrified”.

Band:CRYPT WITCH
Album:BAD TRIP EXORCISM
Label:SOUND EFFECT RECORDS
Format:CD
Genre:DOOM/DRONE/PSYCH
In a dark crypt, at the bloody altar, with the shimmering candles, one priest performs an exorcism rite. With the help of a magic spell book written in the blood of a young virgin, supported by a large portion of marijuana and a huge guitar in his hands, he expels the spirits tormenting the people. Hypnotizing drums are put into trance, reveal the darkest corners of the subconscious. At their call, evil spirits are led and climb out of their holes. They can not resist the weight of the guitar and disappear in its slow and heavy sound. And if you are harassed by evil spirits, it is time to listen to the album "Bad Trip Exorcism" and to conduct your own exorcism. "Bad Trip Exorcism", released digitally in spring 2019, is the debut album of the German one-man band Crypt Witch. The creator of this idea - Eugen Kohl - is already known for his talent and versatility. His current projects include: Donarhall, Sinister Downfall, Death Carrier, Hexengrab, Nihilisticon, Urschmerz, Dark Fields and others. This time Eugen showed his passion for stoner doom by creating instrumental and characteristic stoner compositions interwoven with heavy, fuzzy riffs, hypnotic motifs and melodic passages. Eugen completely avoids singing and gives each listener the opportunity to dive into the world of magic and perform their own "Bad Trip Exorcism". "Bad Trip Exorcism" is out now on CD, via Sound Effect Records, while a vinyl edition is due out soon on Feral Child.

Band:MOONRITE
Album:LET ME BE YOUR GOD
Label:SOUNDFLAT RECORDS
Format:LP
Genre:PSYCHEDELIC/GARAGE/SYNTH
Heavily attracted by the mix of genres “gothic/pop/psychedelic”, the two brothers from Grenoble, France (including Yann Cracker from TOWERBROWN and THE GENTLEMEN'S AGREEMENTS) play dark and groovy music, that sounds like a gloomy hippie trip interpreted with an original organ/drum line up. After their fantastic debut album, the duo further developed their sound and now serves us their second LP “Let Me Be Your God”. Their sound has become even darker and, just like the artwork its covered in, more occult while adding synthesizer and slightly descending musically from the 60s towards the 70s and 80s. This development makes it belong a bit better to the new SOUNDFLAT RECORDS‐daughter‐label TOPSY‐TURVY‐RECORDS that is open to a broader musical field than your 60s‐Garage/Beat‐label SOUNDFLAT RECORDS. While hit‐songs like the title‐song “Let Me Be Your God” or “The Witch Is Back” (which was previously released on 7” by TOWERBEATS RECORDS) sound a lot like the debut‐album, it is especially non‐vocal‐songs like “The Soul Transfer” or “The Initiation Ceremony” that remind one of dark spaced‐out movie‐soundtracks from the mid‐ to late‐seventies. The brothers included one fantastic cover version of “House of Glass” (originally by THE GLASS FAMILY ELECTRIC BAND) among otherwise self‐composed, very powerful, dark and captivating songs. MOONRITE have an absolutely unique sound that is so powerful, that you will find yourself wondering how on earth it can be just the two of them creating such a rich and fantastic sound! Make sure to listen to this fantastic, almost epic album that displays outstanding songwriting and music!

Band:SMOGGERS, THE
Album:GET STONED ON FUZZ
Label:SOUNDFLAT RECORDS
Format:LP
Genre:GARAGEPUNK
Here comes the brand new and sixth LP by crazy Garagepunkers THE SMOGGERS ‐ and as its title already promises, you can easily “GET STONED ON FUZZ“ while listening! Starting off with a powerful Garagepunk‐tune “Losing My Mind”, they added a brilliant coverversion of the BILL HALEY‐classic “13 Women” next. With fuzzy guitars, screaming vocals by wild frontman Fernando and frantic hammond organ by the captivating Ana it more resembles the RENEGADES‐version from 1966 or the FUZZTONES‐version but with lots of Spanish wildness added. The heavy fuzz‐guitar‐sounds and sinister organ and background vocals in “Nunca Más” will absolutely blow your mind while the catchy “No Reason” will make you twist and shout along! “Nothing Is Ever Real” is a perfect Garagedancer with a hint of dark psychedelia. If you're not stoned on fuzz by now, better move on to the B‐side quickly as this fantastic Garagepunk‐record will not let you down for a second! You will go wild to “Radio Go” with heavy guitars and a punky attitude and happily move to “Crazy Land” with the Spanish boys and girl, being surrounded by a dark organ and manic vocals and laughs! One hit chases the next, you find a great deal of MIRACLE WORKERS‐influence in “I Wanna Love” and a hard beat, and cool harmonica in “Evelness”. Finally the dark “I Know” tops the album off nicely. THE SMOGGERS have absolutely outdone themselves on this record with some fantastic songwriting and a perfect Garagepunk‐sound that has a huge amount of power, tough attitude and a great deal of 80s‐Garage‐Revival‐influence in it!

Band:THEE CHA CHA CHAS
Album:RUNNIN' OUT OF TIME
Label:SOUNDFLAT RECORDS
Format:7 inch VINYL
Genre:GARAGE/BUBBLEGUM PUNK
THEE CHA CHA CHAS are a One-woman/One-man garagepunk-band from Melbourne, Australia that originally formed as a joke for a backyard battle of the bands in 2015.. but the joke never stopped and we're extremely glad it didn't! This power-duo plays raw garage-bubblegum-punk with 60s roots and a high dose of wit, so they are an absolute blast to watch live! They already toured Australia and Europe and after their brilliant first single “Here Comes That Feeling” (ZENITH RECORDS) and their split-single with the BREADMAKERS (FOLC RECORDS) the fiery two-piece now releases their next piece of vinyl on SOUNDFLAT RECORDS. The EP includes 4 original tunes by the couple that one just has to fall in love with! The title-song “Runnin' Out Of Time” is a fast, very catchy tune that is followed by a RAMONESque guitar on the second song “Stop Trying”. But the flip-side is no less powerful with the melodic “Cream Of The Crop” and the wild, very cool “I Don't Believe You”. This Australian duo is certainly one of a kind; whoever has seen and heard them live knows that they not only rock the stage but also have a fantastic, cool sound that makes you want more!

Band:VLAD AND THE IMPALERS
Album:SERFS UP
Label:SOUNDFLAT RECORDS
Format:LP
Genre:SURF/BEAT/HORROR/TRASH
GHOUL A GO‐GO is an American TV‐show based on the American tradition of the Horror Host of the 1950s and 60s á la Vampira and Zacherle. The show itself started in 2000 and ever since has not only become a cult TV‐show including a lot of musical gems (such as star appearances by HASIL ADKINS or The 5678's), but the show also does many live‐shows, hosting horror conventions, burlesque‐shows and lots more. This 7” features two brilliant songs recorded by VLAD AND THE IMPALERS – Mister Vlad Tsepis being one of the spooky hosts of the show and The Impalers, who might look and sound suspiciously familiar when you compare them to our favourite German 60s‐Garage‐heroes THE SATELLITERS. You will dig the surfy sounds of the ghost guitars on the A‐side “Serfs up” with spooky hammond organ, ghoulish sounds and creepy laughs by Mister Vlad Tsepis himself! The B‐side is a sing‐and‐dance‐along‐tune featuring noises by the creepy Creighton and backing vocals by the Japanese girl‐trio THE GO‐DEVILS! The fabulous cover artwork is made by Stephen Blickenstaff(, who famously did the CRAMPS cover artwork for “Bad Music For Bad People”) ‐ to make sure this single not only sounds great but also looks it! This single is an absolute must‐have for anyone, who likes chilling 60s‐horror‐films and ‐shows, all fans of the GHOUL A GO‐GO and of course anyone who likes some good 60s‐dance‐tunes!

Band:LAS ASPIRADORAS
Album:ANALGESIA SEDACION DELIRIO
Label:SOUNDFLAT RECORDS
Format:LP
Genre:GARAGE/PUNK/ROCK
Your favourite Spanish garagepunk‐sensation LAS ASPIRADORAS serve yet another smashing LP! Their wild fuzzand organdriven garagepunk with a lot of Spanish temper is what we know and love them for and is what you can also enjoy on their third album “Analgesia, Sedación, Delirio”. “Mi Chica”, a Spanish, very garagey version of BUNKER HILLS “The Girl Can't Dance”, and “Es Una Pena”, again a Spanish ASPIRADORAS‐version of the 60s garage‐classic “It's A Cry'n Shame” by THE GENTLEMEN, mark the only coverversions among their own compositions. Go wild to “Vaya Chapa” with screaming vocals and a spooky organ, shout along to the title song “Analgesia, Sedación, Delirio” or dance to the wild and surfy “Figurante De Bingo”, in any case make sure to listen to this record at maximum volume as their sound is loud, punky and primitive – Spanish 60s Garage‐punk at its very best! Fantastically primitive, fuzz‐ and organdriven garagepunk with a wild, Spanish party atmosphere – what more can you possibly want!?

Band:VARIOUS ARTISTS
Album:DEEPEND! CHAPTER II
Label:PDV RECORDS
Format:12”
Genre:ELECTRONIC/DUB/DUBSTEP
Slovenia's bespoke Dubstep collective forges ahead and takes the reigns for its third heavyweight vinyl release. Wreaking musical havoc with vital support by key scene figures, the fiercely talented crew of like-minded individuals now untethers the next physical chapter in their low-frequency saga with unbridled might. Living and breathing sound system culture, the DeepEnd! massive once again follows through with four prime cuts, designed to get people moving and heads rolling. Infused with equal amounts of swing and terror, CLZ's 'Haunt' ushers in the release with apocalyptic resonances and dreadinfused swagger grooves. Concealed in drizzly percussion and slack breaks amidst serious weight, the quasi-melodic lead and off-kilter finale prove this one to be haunting indeed. Crisp blows await in Kanomotis' 'Watch Yah Steppa VIP' as distant choirs surge through the deeply psychedelic soundscape. Militant vintage strings scrape along only for us all to descend into swaths of pressure-ridden hypnosis. Harmonic lunacy follows the call of meticulous drums - foundation sound. 'Madness' takes over with RawLand & DubDiggerz on the controls, conjuring an abysmal atmosphere and tripped out synthesizer bleeps. Laced in spectral echoes, enormous drums rupture in elaborate rhythmic patterns, laid among profound sub-bass support armaments. FLO & Gisaza's 'Northern Technique' ignites all available cylinders a final time, raiding the dance floor in style. Witnessing the teachings of the East, an immediate descent into a no-holds-barred groove barrage follows. Coveted in tasteful mid-bass surges and immaculate flow - oriental flutes and subterranean excursions make their way into our heart, mind and soul.

Band:RASHOMON
Album:ASHCAN COPY - FILM MUSIC VOL. III
Label:CINEPLOIT
Format:CD
Genre:CINEMATIC/SOUNDTRACK/SCORE
Originally issued in 2011, Ashcan Copy is the third instalment in Rashomon's Film Music series of LPs. Cineploit Records is proud to present this re‐release, and to introduce the record to a wider audience than the 150 lucky souls who snagged a copy of the ultralimited initial release on Hlava Records. Active since 2009, Rashomon is the solo project of Matt Thompson, also of Cineploit mainstays Zoltan. This is his second release on the label under the Rashomon name, following 2014's LP/DVD extravaganza The Cameraman's Revenge: Film Music Vol. 4 – the final release in the Film Music series to date. The previous edition to this, 2009's The Finishing Line: Film Music Vol. 2, had focused on re‐creating the psychological mind‐state of the wilder end of 1970s British public information films. By way of change Ashcan Copy is presented as an album of soundtrack cues from films that were, for one reason or another, never released. The films, hailing from Italy, Japan and the USA (among others) supposedly date from the 1950s to the 1970s, and were (according to the extensive sleeve notes) exactingly sourced from film archives across Europe. In reality, all the music is self‐composed. The eight tracks include elements of noise, folk, psychedelia, prog and noir‐jazz within their elaborate constructions, created with a panoply of instrumentation including Mellotron, zither, home‐made percussion, Fender Rhodes, harmonium, MiniMoog and more. Delicate and sensuous, heavy and oppressive – the record negotiates these musical contradictions while retaining a single‐minded pursuit of strangeness and surprise. Having finally found its spiritual home on soundtrack specialist label Cineploit, Ashcan Copy can at last be heard by all.

Band:MORLOCK
Album:ANCIENT PATHS
Label:CINEPLOIT
Format:CD
Genre:CINEMATIC/SOUNDTRACK/SCORE
Prog doom drummer du jour Andrew Prestidge branches out into the field of electronic music with his solo synthesizer project MORLOCK! After several years spent holding down the drum stool with legendary doom metal acts Angel Witch, Electric Wizard and Warning – not to mention the prog rock bands Zoltan, The Osiris Club and Suns Of The Tundra – Andrew sat down with his keyboard collection, a 4‐track recorder and a selection of sonic screwdrivers to create a new kind of music. The space‐rock jams contained on 'Ancient Paths' are influenced as much by retro synth artists Kraftwerk, Heldon, Tubeway Army and OMD as they are by the sci‐fi soundtracks of John Carpenter and the folk‐horror that seeps into every corner of the British Isles. Andrew's previous experience in live‐soundtracking silent films (performing at Stewart Lee's ATP Festival with Suns Of The Tundra to a 1919 film detailing Shackleton's expedition to Antarctica) and reworking vintage horror scores with Zoltan guide the expansive, allinstrumental melancholy of the record. Acoustic guitars, analog synthesizers and electronic percussion coalesce into a retro‐futurist soundscape for the mind's eye. Many of the songtitles reference occult literature and cinema: Fritz Lang's Metropolis ('Rotwang's Furnace'), Phantasm ('Morningside'), H.P. Lovecraft's Colour Out Of Space ('Blasted Heath'), the comics of Jack Kirby ('Kirby Oberon'). The band name itself is a nod to H.G. Well's classic 1895 novel 'The Time Machine'. The Wind in the Willows recast for the 22nd century? Quatermass and the Pit relocated to Summerisle? The music of Morlock bridges the past and the future, re‐imagining both into a blend of electronic perfection.

Band:Creation VI
Album:BERINGIA
Label:Cryo Chamber
Format:CD
Genre:DARK AMBIENT/DRONE
The wind has changed. The Earth itself vibrates underneath. The wind speaks of the North — and so the journey begins. They leave marks on the stones and carry the fire. Drums and flutes speak with the elements. Voices emerge and fade through the fog. Through the nights full of rustling, of whispers and glowing eyes. The bridge of ice welcomed them to a new land. And melted away behind them.

Band:SHRINE
Album:QUINTESSENCE
Label:Cryo Chamber
Format:CD
Genre:DARK AMBIENT/DRONE
Shrine presents us with the wall of sound heavy album Quintessence In a world like this where the fundamentals of creation and the origin of life still remain beyond the scope of rational comprehension, this album will take you on a metaphysical journey into the primordial chaos of the building blocks of the Universe. It is based on the concept of the Four Elements - Earth, Water, Wind, Fire, plus the Fifth Element, Quintessence, which here represents the abiogenesis, and organic life itself. Each track is here named after a specific Element and the titles are in Old Greek with Latin transcription. A rich texture of field recordings play carefully against strange instruments and haunting voices against a massive wall of drone.

Album:MIDGET VAMPIRE PORN
Label:REPO RECORDS
Format:DCD
Genre:EBM/INDUSTRIAL
Five years have passed since the last full-length Agonoize release “Apokalypse”, but finally, the founders and godfathers of “Hellektro” return with their long-awaited new long player “Midget Vampire Porn”. Too long it has been quiet about Agonoize, even if they never disappeared completely, because live on stage they have never been gone. With a new record label, that strengthens their back, the band around mastermind Chris L. has grown to new strength and power to return with a big bang. With 13 tracks, plus 5 cool bonus-tracks “Midget Vampire Porn” proves that Agonoize still know how to produce harsh dance floor-killers. Catchy bass lines plus the unique voice of lead singer Chris L. are pushing the finger into the weaknesses and the abysses of society - just like a stake straight through the heart. Club hits like “Blutgruppe Jesus (-)”, “Schmerzpervers 2.0”, “Antiheld” or “Homme Fatale” mix perfect with more atmospheric tracks, like “Teufelskind” or “True Blood” and mid tempo songs like “A Vampire Tale” and “Kiss Me, Kill Me” convince with their almost hymn-like mood. With Gerrit Thomas (Funker Vogt) responsible for the mastering you can be sure, this release is obligatory for all clubs and Djs around the world and a especially the limited edition CD which comes in a beautiful 2-CD Digipak is a must have for all the Agonoizers all over the world. "We are Agonoize and we are still alive..." #haterswelcome

Band:KODE
Album:DISCRETE TRANSFORMATION
Label:DIVISION RECORDS
Format:LP
Genre:ROCK/GRUNGE/NOISE/POP
The 10 tracks on this album are hypnotic jewels that unashamedly display KØDE’s immense talent. Displaying all his motley influences, the band manages to pull out of the game by proposing a highly nuanced style that owes as much to noise rock, slowcore as to more indie-grunge-pop. The guitars know how to be overwhelming with heaviness or finer depending on the need of the song, the bass can either breathes a dry groove or be more insidious, the voice distils its contagious melodies which encrust themselves in the cortex in a definitive way. The large and powerful production of Julien Fehlmann (Unfold, The Ocean, Dirge, Coilguns, Kehlvin ...) reveals a multitude of details and subtleties over the course of plays and finally allows Discrete Transformation to become as indispensable as the albums that have rocked our adolescence.

Album:REFERENCES, REFLECTIONS, REVELATIONS
Label:GEENGER RECORDS

Genre:INDIE ROCK/POST PUNK
A four-piece from Zagreb, Croatia is back with a conceptual bang! An ambitious follow-up to the widely praised ‘Bedrooms’ record sees the band embracing the old art of referencing and quoting through all of known music history while creating their own unique presence on the music time-line. From Gesualdo to New Kids on the Block, Mozart to dEUS, (The) Lesser Men set out on a journey of embracing musical stream-of-consciousness thus to prevent self-consciousness from interfering with the quest for the actual meaning of the term 'original music'. The album's concept was recognised and funded by Croatian Ministry of Culture and is released by Geenger Records. First single and video for ‘California Dreaming Revisited’, depicting VHS-analog disintegration of the single-frame, was released in May 2019 and directed by the award-winning Croatian filmmaker Ivan Ramljak.

Band:OGRE
Album:THRICE AS STRONG
Label:Cruz Del Sur
Format:CD
Genre:DOOM METAL/PROTO METAL
Potent, classic doom metal from the northeastern corner of the United States! On Thrice as Strong, Portland, Maine trio Ogre deliver a time-honored display of old-school doom with '70s rock elements that scale epic heights and heavy lows. Tucked away in the most northeastern part of the United States in Maine, the members of Ogre have taken on the resilient nature of the place they call home. Upon their 1999 formation, the trio of Ed Cunningham (bass/vocals), Ross Markonish (guitar) and Will Broadbent (drums) penned “Age of Ice,” a rallying cry and anthem reflective of Maine life. The song exemplifies the Ogre live experience — their shows often require attendees to trudge through piles of snow just to get there — conjuring up a unifying spirit when the first doom-edged guitar chords are hit. The band’s embrace of all things Maine has carried them through their existence, all the while helping them forge a path as a doom outfit unwilling to bend to convention. It shines through on their fifth full-length and first for Cruz Del Sur Music, Thrice as Strong. Tracked with Rowan Bishop at Garage Mahal Recording in Westbrook, Maine, Thrice as Strong is a collection of time-honored doom mixed with classic metal, roping in obscure ’70s rock to top it all off. The Thrice as Strong album title comes from their namesake song “Ogre,” which is found on their Dawn of the Proto-Man debut. Given that the song is written about the last living Neanderthal, Broadbent zeroed in on the line “thrice as strong” and proposed it as the title as a summation of the way Ogre has endured for the past 20 years. Furthermore, it hits upon the fact that, according to Markonish, “if it’s not a trio, then it’s not Ogre at all!” Aside from their tribute to Maine’s own Stephen King on “King of the Wood,” Thrice as Strong follows the main lyrical theme of how those in power tend to abuse it, often with negative consequences. With lyrics penned largely by Cunningham, songs such as “The Future” takes a look at the lies we are told as children and how, when the future becomes the present, things aren’t exactly what they seemed. “Judgement Day” tackles the oftentimes shady relationship between religion and power, while “Hive Mind” explores the overriding effect technology has on our brains. And “Cyber-Czar” brings back a recurring motif in the Ogre pantheon — a cyborg running amok — for a summary of the album’s themes. Complete with hand-painted cover art courtesy of Broadbent, Thrice as Strong is as captivating of a doom package as you’ll find this year. The undeniable chemistry within the Ogre ranks — the result of years of slugging it out in the clubs and rehearsal room — provides the band with a unique edge, intrinsic not only to “The Pine Tree State,” but the doom scene at large.

Band:ORODRUIN
Album:RUINS OF ETERNITY
Label:Cruz Del Sur
Format:CD
Genre:DOOM METAL
The wait is finally over! American doom legends Orodruin return with their first studio album in 16 years, the masterful Ruins of Eternity. One of the most highly-regarded names in American doom metal picks up where they left off from their classic Epicurean Mass debut with Ruins of Eternity, an epic showing time-honored and epic doom! Sixteen years have passed since Orodruin’s lone studio album, Epicurean Mass. The album is a veritable American doom touchstone — the almost perfect intersection of Black Sabbath heft and the slow atmospheric churn of Saint Vitus. And while those two bands are a proper frame of reference for Orodruin and the American doom scene at large, the Rochester, New York-based outfit immediately proved itself to be its own unique, formidable entity, the creative unit of John Gallo (guitar), Mike Puleo (bass/vocals), Nick Tydelski (guitar) and Mike Waske (drums) writing an album equally as epic as it was forlorn. Such an elongated span of time between releases often condemns lesser bands to the memory bank gallows, never to be seen or heard from again. Yet, the Orodruin name has only grown in stature since the release of Epicurean Mass, with the doom scene at large pining for new music from the band as they remained active on the live front. The wait is finally over — Orodruin has returned with a brand-new studio album and their first for Cruz Del Sur Music, Ruins of Eternity. Tracked throughout 2018 at Wicked Squid Studio, Ruins of Eternity is the result of a two-year songwriting burst from the band, who are now a trio after the departure of Waske. (Puleo pulled double-duty on the album and handled the drums.) Exploring lyrical themes of “loss, departure and rebirth,” Ruins of Eternity finds Orodruin already in full doom-stride, employing their trademark heavy riffing, guitar harmony interplay and the emotive vocals of Puleo, who turns in an impassioned performance on the title track, as well as “Into the Light of the Sun” and “Hell Frozen Over.” The band even reached back into their song archives for “Letter of Life’s Regret,” which was written in 2005 and deemed too good not to include on Ruins of Eternity.

Band:EVOKED
Album:RAVENOUS COMPULSION
Label:FDA RECORDS
Format:CD
Genre:Death Metal
Hailing from East Westphalia, Germany, Evoked first reared their ugly heads in 2013 from a spread of rank riffs songwriter Bonesaw had been carrying around for some time to follow traditional paths in two respects – making their name known with a modest yet lauded demo which, quite fittingly, spread undiluted death the old (and only) way. Without missing a beat, the still shifting but – thanks to the front man’s uncompromising lead and vision – dedicated line‐up churned out two additional short formats that proved Evoked’s superiority over oh‐so‐many parvenus who make do with emulating their heroes instead of writing substantial songs. Therefore, signing to F.D.A. in 2016 was a no‐brainer. Now after three years of careful writing and with multiple gigs alongside underground heavy‐weights such as Root or Sulphur Aeon under their collective belt, the trio is set to leave its first long‐play mark – although “Ravenous Compulsion” needs only slightly more than half an hour to give you a classic lesson you’ll love to put on repeat.

Band:SHADES OF DEEP WATER
Album:DEATH'S THRESHOLD
Label:DUNKELHEIT
Format:CD
Genre:DOOM METAL/DEATH METAL
A cult fixture in the funeral doom scene, SHADES OF DEEP WATER began its exploration of the abyss in 2006. The sole creation of one J.H., the band's ascent/descent has been as steady as his music is slow. From 2007 to 2009, three demos were released in succession and then the Constant Pressure EP in 2012, all before the debut album, Waterways, in 2013. Aptly titled, Waterways suggested the aquatic, abyssal themes SHADES OF DEEP WATER would henceforth explore. From there, J.H. hit a creative streak, with two more EPs following as well as two compilations, such was the demand for his music among ultra-doom afficionados. Now, at long last, arrives SHADES OF DEEP WATER's magnum opus, Death's Threshold. Likewise aptly titled, Death's Threshold is a veritable exploration (and celebration) of his native Finland's rich history in funeral doom and doom-death. Comprising four utterly epic, stretched-across-the-abyss tracks in a vast-yet-focused 41 minutes, here do SHADES OF DEEP WATER drown the listener in physically/spiritually crushing atmosphere, dragging that listener down/down/DOWN under, far below the depths and never to return; the effect is hauntingly hypnotic, and almost comfortingly so. But, as this is strictly (and unapologetically) within the funeral doom pantheon, rest assured that there is no light, no hope, wherever the album roams.

Band:DEMONOMANCER
Album:POISONER OF THE NEW BLACK AGE
Label:DUNKELHEIT
Format:CD
Genre:DEATH METAL/WARNOISE
A compilation of all demos which were released from 2012-2016 of the central-american warnoise command DEMONOMANCER. Bestial Warnoise from El Salvador! Demonomancer's „Poisoner Of The New Black Age“ documents the entire discography of this Salvadorian one-man-band, as Julio Ardon performs all instruments in devotion to Satan. It is a testimony of sheer audio terror, consisting of 22 songs that attack on all fronts, a proof of the authenticity of its sound. This archive reeks of the darkest desires, sleaze, perversion & filth, as if an unbridled, grinding hybrid ala Beherit, Nyogthaeblisz, Conqueror & Luciation came to life, yet still with a distinct identity, an unheard beast of its own. Sometimes it becomes unclear if this is Black Metal, Noise, or both, as the constant frantic disharmonies melt with blastbeats and offer something closer to gunfire than proper music. No nice melodies or harmonies to be found here, just pure audio distortion & ear torture - a crime put on black wax and silver disc. Demonomancer is only : J. Ardon, All instruments and Satan, Photo by Rebeca B. A., Artwork by CHAOS VULTURE ARTWORKS, Design by Mors. Mastering by Moises Dextre at El Sótano Studio, Lima (Peru), 2018. All Recordings in this Compilation were from 2012-2016. Executive Production by Dunkelheit Produktionen, 2018/2019.

SARCASM’s long awaited second album Within The Sphere Of Ethereal Minds was a triumph of will over tragedy. The vibrant proof that twenty-three years (!) after their last recording, a band could come back from the dead and deliver against all odds their best album yet, despite the numerous obstacles on their path, least being the tragic and sudden death of their drummer, the sadly missed Oskar Karlsson, just months before they were meant to enter the studio. Not only does Esoteric Tales Of The Unserene repeat that feat but adds new shades and sounds to their already epic style, proving that nearly three decades after first forming back in 1990 in Uppsala, SARCASM still have something new and relevant to say.
